Lessons linked to Branch 1 Covenant and Creation Year 4 RED framework. These lessons to cover 2.5 hours of RE teaching linked to learning outcomes including developing understanding of the historical context, the importance of Abraham and how the Abrahamic Covenant marks the beginning of people believing in one God. It is the foundation of Judaism and in time Christianity. Learners are challenged to think about how they can use the example of Abraham to grow in faith and deepen their relationship with God. Differentiated tasks with scaffolding also available. Link to a hymn which may be used in this lesson. Teaching slides to build understanding linked to learning outcomes including: U4.1.4 Recognise that God’s covenant with Abraham is the foundation of the faith of the people of the Old and New Testaments: Judaism and Christianity. R4.1.2 Reflecting on how the virtues of faith, hope and love help them to be a good neighbour. (RVE) D4.1.2 Explaining why they think Abraham is seen as a model of prayer.

Teaching slides linked to three learning outcomes for Year 4 Branch 1: Creation and Covenant. U4.1.1 Show some understanding of the historical context of Abraham (and Joseph) and the cultural and religious context out of which he was called. (RVE) U4.1.2 Retell the story of Abraham, ensuring it is accurate in sequence and detail and shows an understanding of the term ‘covenant’. R4.1.1. Considering how their own lives and the lives of their communities could be transformed by the virtues of faith, hope, and love. (RVE) The lessons include activities to build understanding of the historical context of Abraham, as well retelling and analysis of the Biblical story of the ‘Call of Abraham’, with scripture, and supporting scaffolding for whole-class activities. Differentiated cross-curricular activities are also included for mixed-abilities level. The pack also includes a Cover Page for this topic Creation and Covenant and templates for prayer intentions linked to Hope to feature on the class Prayer Table and build on learning outcome R4.1.1 on how we consider how hope transforms lives.

Two lessons linked to learning outcomes of Branch 1 (Creation and Covenant) Year 4. The ppt walks you through the scripture and activities. The focus this week is the story of the Visitors and Abraham and the Sacrifice of Isaac. The activity includes an expressive arts activity linked to Andrei Lubev’s Trinity icon. Learners will be asked to colour in a template and annotate the symbolism. This icon is linked to Genesis 18. The second activity is to create an axis of emotion (emotions graph) to track emotions throughout all the stories we have covered from The Call of Abraham to the Sacrifice of Isaac. Children will need lots of modellling on plotting the points on the model and drawing the lines in order. Differentiated templates are available and challenge questions are displayed on teaching slides. The ppt also includes links to relevant animated scripture stories and slides to support learners leading Class liturgy. An extra resource is also included to support learners create a ‘Going forth’ linked to scripture for the class prayer table - A star template to make their own promise to God.

Lessons to cover 2.5 hours of RE teaching linked to the RED framework. Year 4 Branch 1 Creation and Covenant. This week focuses on the story of Joseph, the historical context and how his decisions were affected by faith, hope and love for God. Included ppt, differentiated activities and scaffolding linked to learning outcomes. Recap U4.1.4 Recognise that God’s covenant with Abraham is the foundation of the faith of the people of the Old and New Testaments: Judaism and Christianity. Reflecting on the challenges and blessings Abraham (and Joseph) experienced and how their faith played a part in how they reacted U4.1.5 Show some understanding of how the decisions of Abraham (and Joseph) were informed by their faith, hope, and love in God. R4.1.1 Considering how their own lives and the lives of their communities could be transformed by the virtues of faith, hope, and love. U4.1.6 Make links between prayers that show trust in God and the virtues of faith, hope, and love. ( Use the Prayer of Abandonment as a reference point) Also included a reflection with Charles de Foucauld’s ‘Prayer of Abandonment’

Lessons to cover 2.5 hours of RE linked to Branch 1 of Creation and Covenant with a topical link to Cafod’s Family Fast Day 2024 Includes ppt slide to walk you through the lesson. Scaffolding and differentiated activies on Abraham a model of prayer, Jesus’ family tree to help build more understanding of the historical context and the significance of Abraham for Christianity before next week making links with other Abrahamic faiths. Slides at the end of the ppt also support learners to lead their own class liturgy.

A unit of literacy planning with scaffolding to support confidence building in writing. All lessons have ppts and scaffolding. A planning document is also included to take you through the learning journey. Aimed at Year 4 but could be used in Year 3 or LA Year 5. It was planned using the Welsh curriculum so focuses on elements of the Health and Wellbeing Aole as well as LLC and cross-curricular skills. Lesson 1 - Sensory Walk to find things we hear, see, touch and smell. Lesson 2 - Create a wordbank from our walk and begin to build and upgrade sentences. Lesson 3 - WMG similes and innovating our own similes Lesson 4 - Comparing colours to emotions. (Creating a colour wheel thesaurus to upgrade our language before using our ideas to support writing.) Lesson 5 - Planning our senses simile poems using a Wagoll as well as ‘My turn’ ‘your turn’ lesson so they are upgrading ideas throughout. Lesson 6 - Write, edit and publish using success criteria Lesson 7 (optional - record their poem on Seesaw and asses against a set of criteria. self and peer assess and set a personal oracy target for the rest of the term.
