Tetrahedra investigation. 3D Nets. Problem solving

(2)
A short investigation to find the number of ways the net of a tetrahedron can be coloured using four different colours only once. The unit is split into three sections: 1. How many ways can the net of a tetrahedron be coloured using four different colours only once? 2. How many ways can the net of a tetrahedron be coloured if rotations aren’t allowed? 3. How many ways can a 3D tetrahedron be coloured using four different colours only once?

Pentominoes. Rotational symmetry. KS3. Shapes.

(2)
This unit is made up of a number of mini activities. After finding the 12 pentominoes pupils use the shapes in the following activities: Find the symmetry and rotational symmetry of the shapes. Investigate which pentominoes will tessellate without being rotated, then which will tessellate when rotated. Fit the shapes into varying sizes of rectangles. The unit contains pentomino shapes to download and print out.
