UNIT PSY 2 – SUMMARIES OF CORE STUDIES The core theme for this unit is psychological research. It is designed to encourage candidates to explore the nature and practice of psychological enquiry. The Summaries should be used in conjunction with the Specification and the Specimen Assessment Materials.

This activity introduces the class to the idea that shapes can be used to draw pictures of everyday objects. Pupils firstly look at a shape picture and discuss the shapes they can see. They are then able to create their own shape picture using a variety of shapes provided on the screen (eg a house, people, animals). Pupils can then use a fill tool to colour their pictures before printing. Practical activities using the idea of shapes in pictures are suggested for individual or group work.

A set of matching activities in the form of an interactive game of Snap. Pupils are required to match: lower case letters, upper case letters, lower and upper case letters, high frequency words. This inteactive activity is designed to introduce pupils to the idea that some everyday objects need electricity to work. The initial page asks pupils to identify items that use electricity. Subsequent pages ask the pupils to drag electrical items into the room in a house where they might be used. The final page asks pupils to identify objects that need either mains or battery power to work and can be used to initiate discussion on safety (battery being safer than mains).
