CB5h - Antibiotics - Edexcel 9-1 - Topic 5: Lesson 6 Antibiotics
The lesson is specific the new Edexcel 9-1 GCSE and part of topic 5.
The lesson starts with a review of the previous learning. Before a circus of information gathering, comprising of 4 tasks to help the students take ownership of their learning. The students the attempt a worksheet with an extension task built in to the lessons. The students finish the lesson with an exam question.
CB1a- revision- microscopes
This is a revision resource that covers CB1a microscopes. The resource looks at comparing electrons and light microscopes, magnification and image size. There are short quizzes that summerise the learning and a worksheet and exam question to review the topic.
CB1b,d - revision- cells
This is a resource that looks at bacteria, plant and animal cells. It requires a textbook (preferably the combined science 9-1). This is a really simple lesson that looks at defining and comparing the different cells before completing a worksheet to summerising the learning. This is best purchases as part of my series of revision lessons.
CB1g - revision - enzymes pH, temperature and substrate concentration.
The lessons starts by a quick review of the factors that affect enzyme activity before a exam style questions on enzymes. This is not a stand alone resource and best used with the revision collection.

CB1: Key Concepts in Biology Edexcel 9-1 - Whole scheme.
These 12 lessons aim to engage and promote progress in year 9-10 students. From experience and due to the importance of this topic I have broken down some of the topics within the module if they are of high importance as this ensures that learning takes place. The lessons specialise in AFL which is built in at appropriate places.
CB9 Edexcel - Lesson 4: biotic factors
The lesson starts by looking at predator prey relationships, this develops into some graph analysis. The next task looks at biotic factors ad how the change food webs. There is then a 10 mark quiz, an outcome differentiated worksheet and an exam Q to finish.

This is a revision resource that encourages independence and learning of key outcomes. This would take a couple of lessons to complete as there are multiple tasks to improve understanding.
Edexcel 9-1 New Edexcel GCSE - Cells and Control: Percentile charts and cell differentiation
Percentile charts and cell differentiation - Cells and Control.
The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic two of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017).
The lesson start by looking at why percentile charts are used, this is done by levelled examples followed by some teacher led questions. The lesson then moves on to cell differentiation that is formatively assessed with a hinge point question. The lesson concludes with an exit ticket.
CB5d - Communicable disease - Edexcel 2016 - Topic 5: Lesson 2 Communicable disease
The lesson is specific the new Edexcel GCSE and part of topic 5 (lesson 2).
The lesson starts with a gcse biology question looking at the prevalence of TB and HIV.
The learning outcomes are then reviewed before the students attempt an independent research task looking at five communicable diseases and answering questions that lead to an understanding of the learning outcome.
Their understanding is assessed by matching question and answer card sort, included were in the download, there is a higher order question two push the top end of students. The lesson concludes with a 10 mark exam question which students record in an exit ticket tracker and rank their learning outcomes.
There is a model answer to the ten mark exam question included to ensure consistency for the students.
Edexcel GCSE: Lesson 13- Calorimetry
Over arching concepts in biology.
The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017).
This is a practical lesson looking at how the energy in food can be measured. The lesson focuses on the different between the energy density in developed vs developing countries. The lesson concludes with a 6 mark GCSE question that can be teacher of peer assessed. There is an exit ticket on the end of the lesson.
CB1c Edexcel 9-1: cell specialisation
Over arching concepts in biology.
The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017).
The lesson starts with a presentation focus to ensure the students show pride in their work. It then moves in to introduce the main cells of the lesson: cilliated epithelial, sperm and egg. After a brief introduction to these there is a ten minute Kagan activity where students can gather information about the cell before sharing with their group. This rolls into a true or false hinge point question to direct learning via differentiated association squares. The learners solidify their understanding with a Cloze activity before finishing with an exit ticket
New Edexcel GCSE - Cells and Control: Lesson 22- neurones
Cells and Control.
The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic two of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017).
The lesson focusses around a carousel based information gathering task, within the 4 stations there are levels of differentiation. The level of learning is assessed via a hinge question, this leads into an extension or consolidation activity. This activity is followed by a 6 mark GCSE question which is self assessed with a mark scheme. The lesson concludes with an exit ticket.
Life Processes Lesson 9- Food webs
The lesson is based on Edexcel 2016 GCSE content and is vital that the younger year have an appreciation of GCSE requirements. This is a KS3 resource that can be adapted for GCSE.
The Do it now task assesses prior learning about food chains and energy transfer. The lesson then goes on to get the students to think, pair, share their ideas of how to make a food chain. There is a hinge point question to direct learning and then the students then attempt a food web with a series of animals. The student can then rate their confidence and choose either a gold or silver task with a food web differentiated question. The lesson concludes with an exit ticket.
