Metabolism AQA

This fun and informative complete lesson covers all content from AQA specification content on ‘metabolism’. Using a detailed and engaging PowerPoint the students work their way through the content with a range of whole class quizzes, paired and individual activities. The range of challenges encourage students to learn new key words. The lesson structure challenges students to apply their new knowledge to exam style questions whilst also giving them expert exam tips. There are also some notes to support the teaching of this topic. Included in the PowerPoint & worksheet are the following activities: Begins with a warm up task - recalling biological molecules from unit 2 organisation. Thought provoking questions drawing on students prior knowledge. Differentiated tasks all in one - there are slides with clues on that will appeal to both higher level students (e.g. chemical structure of glucose) and foundation (linking biological molecules to food tests from unit 2 organisation). Differentiated ‘fill the gap’ activity, I create give me a clue sheets which contain more information (less gaps to fill) to support less able students or those with SEN. Fun guess the word before it appears and ‘say what you see’ activities. Final activity further application of lesson & linking to prior units in exam style question. The lesson should take about 1 hour but can be adapted to different timings. You should find the lesson is totally self-explanatory in that you can simply click through, and it flows through the content. My students have really enjoyed all the lessons in this unit so far, so I hope yours do too! Biology GCSE Paper 1 COMPLETE REVISION SET

12 Resources
Biology Paper 1 revision. A selection of revision resources covering AQA Biology: Unit 1 Cell biology Unit 2 Organisation Unit 3 Infection & response Unit 4 Bioenergetics Includes: 5 sets of Q&A cards (72 in total) for independent/group activities, 2 PowerPoint based class quizzes, a (very) detailed mindmap (with helpful suggestions on how to use it) complete lesson on aerobic respiration to use for recap and a cell biology quiz plenary activity. The cards are designed to print, cut and go, you are welcome to give these to students for them to use outside of the classroom for independent revision. I tend to give them to my students for this purpose and they love them! Each quiz can take quite a good portion of a lesson (40mins to answer in teams and go through the answers) to get through, it took my class a little longer than I expected but again the students really enjoyed the format of it and the team challenge element. The mindmap covers the whole of infection & response including the biology only content as a seperate map. The aerobic respiration lesson can be used to recap skills as well as content. I hope you find the range of activities engages and supports your students in their revision, good luck for the 10th May! As always please email me at shropshirescienceteacher@gmail.com with any queries, and I’m always grateful for postive reviews!

Infection & response revision mindmap

Infection & response revision mindmap

2 Resources
Infection & response This revision/plenary resource covers the complete specification for AQA Combined Science & triple Biology unit 4.3 Infection &response. Updated to include fully editable final slide! The PowerPoint contains an intricate mindmap that encourages students to develop links within this topic; which teaches about communicable disease, pathogens, defense systems, vaccination, drug discovery & development, BIOLOGY ONLY monoclonal antibodies, and plant disease; helping them to gain a greater depth of understanding of the unit. To use this resource, print out any of the slides (best on A3) then students can use their own notes/textbooks to fill in the bubbles and make the links. Can be used as a timed team game – allow each member of the team 1 minute to view the complete version then they race to fill in as much of their copy in 2 minutes as they can remember, repeat for each team member. Then ask the team to reflect on their mindmap and fill in any gaps using their own knowledge. It also works well as an individual task for a quiet summary/revision activity. For students that find it overwhelming to view the whole sheet I suggest covering half with plain paper and working on a section at a time to gradually build up the full picture. If you have any questions about this, or any of my resources, please message me at: shropshiresciencetutor@gmail.com One last thing, if you use and enjoy my resource, I’d be really grateful if you could please try to leave a positive review!
