Year 3 Maths: Differentiated Questions

(0)
These differentiated assessment materials are divided into the three levels of attainment: Pre-Age Related Expectation, Age Related Expectation and Mastery. Each question card consists of around 6 questions; focusing on the three fundamental aspects of mathematics: Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving. Children are expected to start with Fluency questions and progress to Problem Solving. There is little room for working out, so additional paper will be required for children to record their written answers and calculations. The questions are designed to assess whether children can work independently within the attainment level, at a pace that suits them. Teachers may wish to time the Fluency aspect of the assessment to ensure that the skill is embedded. Similarly, if schools wish to do so, each question card can be used as a distance from learning task to ensure children have retained previously acquired knowledge and skills. The assessments can be done all year round but could be used towards the end of Spring Term and throughout the Summer Term to inform end of year attainment. Answers are not provided, however, guidance on appropriate answers for the Reasoning questions are provided in the Guidance document. The main purpose of the assessments is to inform teacher professional judgement but is not exclusive to this purpose. Teachers may wish to set a question card as homework at the end of a week.
