This is a weeks worth of planning on place value. It includes alot of mathematical questioning to tap into the children's understanding and allows them to understand the concept in depth. The planning includes links to interactive games online to be used to encourage all types of learners. It also teachers children to look at the 1000 before and 1000 after, aswell as looking at the value of each digit. Children will also be taught how to write a number in words and vice versa. This resource includes a weeks lesson plan and a presentation.

Missing Number Calculations KS2

This resource has numerous activities that are extremely well differentiated. These lessons involve teaching children strategies in order to be able to check their answers, such as rounding and estimating, and also finding the inverse. Children are further challenged to use the inverse of addition to solve missing number calculations. Again, this is well differentiated so that all abilities can access the content. This packaged includes many resources, a very detailed lesson plan, and a crystal clear notebook file. The resources have been labelled Bronze (LA), Silver (MA) and Gold (HA). There is also Platinum for G&T children. Included in lesson starters and plenaries are arithmetic tests that again, are differentiated. This keeps children's mathematical knowledge broad and fresh. These tests are available on the SMART notebook. Please review this resource and check out my other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

Timestables Chart

A colourful, creative way to keep track of children's knowledge of the timestables. I printed this chart on A3, filled in the children's names and ticked off the timestables as they knew them. We found it was a nice visual way to keep a note of who knew which timestables and it also became a little competitive in who knew the most. Please leave a review if you liked this resource and check out some of my other resources also: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

This lesson plan provides children with an opportunity to engage with geometry in a way that should be clear to each individual learner. This lesson plan is well differentiated to the point where each group is challenged while there needs are being bet simultaneously. This plan includes lessons on: 2D shape properties and classification Lines of symmetry Lines of symmetry in irregular shapes 2D shapes in different orientations Classification of triangles. As the title suggests, there are many practical activities involved, including creating a symmetrical robot, practical classification and use of mirrors. Please leave a review to let me know your thoughts on this lesson plan.

13 pages of multiplication resources Mastering multiplication facts is such an important component to math fluency. This packet is hands-on, FUN, engaging and provides students with a meaningful way to help master basic multiplication facts from 2-12 while having FUN! Tic-Tac-Toe/X’s and O’s Multiplication is a fun way for students to practice basic multiplication facts. This game is played just like the traditional game of tic-tac-toe but with multiplication facts. *Each player uses a different colored game piece to mark their choice. Students must solve the problems correctly to place an X or an O on the board. Three is a row wins the game! *Each game board focuses on a specific multiplication table or there’s an option for mixed multiplication tables. In addition, each game board allows students to work/see multiplication problems two different ways.

World Cup 2018: The Ultimate Bundle

Can you feel the excitement brewing for the FIFA World Cup 2018?!? My class cannot stop talking about the World Cup lately. This has driven me to make lots of resources based on the event. In this bundle I’ve included all of the resources I’ve made so far on the World Cup. Included: *A maths activity for children to calculate the distances between the World Cup stadiums and convert the units. *A maths game involving children representing a country and answering a maths question to score a ‘goal’. Then competing against other countries to win the final. *Mathematical word problems (and answers) involving the Russian Currency. *2 activities were children engage with designing their own fantasy World cup jersey and team. *A maths activity involving children identifying the co-ordinates in which Ronaldo passes to his team mates. Each activity has already sold numerous times on TES and TpT, so by bundling them together I hope it to be of some benefit. I really hope you enjoy these resources as much as my class and I did. Please leave a review and let me know how you and your class like them.

FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 is HERE! Coming from a ‘football crazy’ class, I knew my class would want to spend the end of year engaging with content based around the FIFA world cup. This resource involves the whole class and is a way to consolidate maths through the World Cup. I have included: PPT for the names of 30 children PPT for the names/groups of the countries in the World Cup Scoreboard to track who is winning/competing against who. Research sheet to engage children with the country they chose Over 45 different maths questions WITH answers Game rules Example of a layout of who plays who Children names will be drawn from a hat along with a country. They will then be representing this country in the game. Children will roll a dice 6 times. If either competing team rolls a 6, this equates to one goal IF they can answer the a maths question (included) correctly. If they get it incorrect, the goal has been saved by their opponent. Aimed at KS2. Can be eaily adapted for your children too. In my class, there are only 18 students, but I have included enough for 30. (As there is 2 extra teams, the first two children ‘out’ can come back in. An exhilarating, fun activity for those ‘End of Year’ days that we all crave activities for. We really enjoyed it :)
Inverse KS2

Inverse KS2

A ONE page worksheet on inverse operations for KS2! I use this one sheet for each ability group within my Year 4 class. I differentiate through support rather than work. Yes the lower ability children may need more initial support and resources, but they are flying in confidence and in Maths ability. This sheet allows children to move on to a harder challenge every 3 questions, thus challenging each ability group at all times. Before children start their activity, they need to critically think about a statement written on the paper (work backwards and change the sign). I allow them to talk in mixed ability pairs about this statement and PROVE that it is correct/incorrect before they start their activity. By doing this, children learn to justify their own answers in Mathematics, thus having an overall better understanding for the Mathematical concepts. I have adopted this strategy for all topics and it’s proving very effective in children’s understanding. GIve it a try and be sure to let me know how it worked in your classroom.

Division: Differentiated Activities

DIFFERENTIATED DIVISION FOR 4 GROUPS When teaching division this week, I struggled to find a resource in which I needed. In Mathematics, I like a resource to be differentiated, while allowing the children to move up to a higher set themselves, if they find the work too easy. This resource allows children to make great progress in one lesson as they can be challenged constantly, rather than completing page after page of the same type of calculation. My class have not yet moved onto long division, so it is differentiated by: Bronze: No remainders or carry ons. Silver: Harder division calculations with some remainders. Gold: All with remainders and involving all times tables. Upon finishing the gold section, there is an additional section called platinum. This section allows a further challenge for children in completing ‘missing calculation’ division questions, ‘reasoning and explanation’ questions and ‘spot the mistakes’ questions (answers included). It’s based off Maths Mastery ideas. These files have been saved as a PDF and include answers. DIFFERENTIATED MULTIPLICATION FOR 4 GROUPS* When teaching multiplication this week, I struggled to find a resource in which I needed. This resource allows children to make great progress in one lesson as they can be challenged constantly, rather than completing page after page of the same type of calculation. My class have not yet moved onto 2 digit multiplication, so it is differentiated by: Bronze: TO x O (focusing mainly on the 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables) Silver: HTO x O (using a range including the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables) Gold: THHTO x O (using a range including the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables) Upon finishing the gold section, there is an additional section called platinum. This section allows a further challenge for children in completing missing calculation multiplication questions (answers included). I have provided the success criteria at the top of the page, as I like to remind children constantly what they need to remember to do. These files have been saved as a PDF and a word document.

As shown on my Instagram (Rebecca.the.irish.teacher), here is my interactive Maths display! As seen in the picture, it contains: Maths Display Heading Maths Vocabulary for Addition and Subtraction (not photographed) Headings for ‘Make it’ ‘Layout’ and ‘Solve it’ to encourage children to represent the calculations in different ways. Signs to promote reasoning skills: ‘What’s the same’, ‘What’s different’ ‘Can you order these numbers?’ sign. Clothes to hang on a string with space to write a new number each week. The idea is to involve the children in the maths display to keep their skills fresh, vocabulary strong and reasoning skills constant. If there’s any vocabulary you would like added, please let me know and I can add them in. Lastly, this product is in Black and White. I printed them on colored paper!
