French - Opinions about TV genres card activity

Pupils have cards in pairs and pick up a TV show card, an opinion card and ‘je les trouve’ card, followed by ‘Par contre’ to make sentences. Example: J’adore les dessins animés. Je les trouve très amusants. Par contre, je n’aime pas les documentaires. Je les trouves ennuyeux.

There are four different slides with phrases about how often you do different activities. Simply click on the lines to reveal the letters and click on different parts of the ‘hangman’ to slowly build it up.

This PPT explains the use of ‘the’ in French and how it’s not always translated in English.

This is a presentation for an alternative curriculum day. Any age group can do it, but you would need to adjust the end task to make it harder for older pupils. I used this with pupils from high-ability Year 7 up to Year 9. Pupils are introduced to the vocab needed for the display (switch off lights, put rubbish in the bin, etc).

Use this PPT to practise pupils’ memory skills. There are 10 random words that appear at timed intervals that they must try to remember without taking notes, then activities to follow. At the end, using the vocab, pupils play noughts and crosses in teams.

Full instructions are in the notes section of this PPT. Pupils are shown words that they have to remember in a given time limit. Their challenge is then increased with longer phrases.

In this reading homework, students write questions about the texts (in French or in English, depending on the group's ability) for their partner, who then answers the questions when in class when the homework is due. They then both write a WWW & EBI for each other's answers.

My students stick this sheet into their exercise books at the start of the year for reference throughout the year. It has literacy codes on it, along with some phrases to help the students speak spontaneously (they tally every time they use one of the phrases). Alongside the literacy codes used in students’ work, there are columns for me to tick each term, which means students have to focus on their weakest area (spelling, punctuation, etc.). The ‘STAC’ referred to on the sheet is an assessed piece of work done each term, but this can be deleted/edited as you please.

I use this sheet either at the end of each half-term (after assessments) or at the start of the following half-term. Pupils fill in their self-assessment of their own progress over the half-term, including what they found most challenging and their personal targets for the following half-term.
