The Computer Revolution - Meant as a cross department study with the Humanities and ICT/Computer Science. This is 1 lesson from a series of 17 (see below). Each lesson is well constructed and fully resourced (all resources contained at the end of each PowerPoint to avoid multiple files). Lessons include a varied sequence of activities building up content and skills to answer a large essay question in lesson 17 on the nature of change and continuity thanks to the computer revolution, and a speculative discussion of the impact of future developments. The series also runs parallel to a 17 part ‘Guided Reading’ pack on the same topic. This lesson on the Windrush Generation explores the arrival of Caribbean migrants to Britain on the SS Empire Windrush in 1948. It examines the push and pull factors for migration, such as post-war labor shortages in Britain and economic difficulties in the Caribbean. ICT: Designed for low ability native English speakers or EAL students/International schools. First slide gives an overview with icons to depict the main tasks (Writing/watching/editing etc). Second slide gives the Learning Objectives and a Mix n Match Keywords activity (meant to be added to an EAL glossary in their books). Images are there to help with this task. Third section offers a model – WITH VIDEO SCREEN GRAB – showing how to make a chart and edit the data in PowerPoint. Fourth section gives sentence stems to allow students to write up a description what they have learnt in today’s lesson (so there’s evidence in their books of progress being made).
