This lesson carries on for the previous four lessons to teach the basics of spreadsheets. The focus here is on using IFs and conditional formatting to create self marking quiz. The extension is to lock down a worksheet and protect cells / use a password to restrict access to a sheet / workbook. This lesson puts together all the learning from the previous 6 lessons in the Spreadsheets Basics Series into a practical task to create a battleships game using a spreadsheet to make use of formatting techniques, Averages, Max, Min, IFs, Conditional Formatting. I normally use this with KS3. I have also include a student example which has a Star Wars theme rather than the traditional battleships theme. This is a great activity that involves some quite complex use of Spreadsheet principles so there is a teacher exemplar to show each stage and a video to show the teacher / students what to do if they get stuck. The extension tasks are very tricky and should stretch the most able students.

This is a full lesson on data transmission with all resources / activities. I use this for a double lesson of around 1 hour and 50 minutes and it provides a thorough understanding of simplex / duplex transmission and then goes on to look at serial / parallel transmission before finishing with odd and even parity bits and then parity blocks.
