How I use the resource:
Allow children to read text independently and identify words they are unsure of.
Discuss new vocabulary and allow children to use dictionary if needed.
Children can begin answering questions - encourage them to underline or highlight parts of the text which give them clues to the answer.
Go through questions together as a class or with a partner and compare answers.
Smarties Investigation - Data Handling Used for an observation lesson
Children are required to investigate the most common colour of smartie.
They can work in pairs -You will need one mini tube of smarties per pair.
Children must separate smarties by colour and count how many of each colour they have.
They should use this data to create a tally chart.
Then they should use their tally chart to draw a bar graph.
Success criteria provided on the worksheet.

Each activity begins with a short text in which can be read as a class or with an adult - Children should colour or underline the words that have the focus sound.
Next the children will sort some words - does the focus sound come at the beginning or end of the word?
Then the children will complete a word building task, a wordsearch and a syllable counting task.

Meditations are beneficial to children as it improves their ability to focus and regroup. They are great for helping children manage anxieties and practice mindfulness. I have used these meditations many times in whole class settings as well as small groups and children really enjoy them.
They are also a great way to calm children down after lunchtime, after a P.E lesson or as a way to begin the day.

Instructions:
Simply ask a times table e.g. 4 x 5 and the child will cross out the answer if it is on the bingo card! Keep going until the child crosses out all answers!
