32X cards that can be used to revise figurative language / persuasive language techniques including: Similes Metaphors Alliteration Onomatopoeia Idiom Oxymoron Sarcasm Irony Direct Address Facts Opinions Rhetorical Question Repetition Emotive Language Statistics Triples ( Rule of Three) There are statements on 2X cards each, which use one of the techniques above. These cards were created so that my learners could play a ‘match a pair’ game. Turn all of the cards over on the table. Get the learners to take it in turns to turn over two cards, if the statements match the technique then they ‘win’ that pair of cards. If they don’t match, then they turn them back over and another player gets to choose two cards. Continue until all the cards are matched. These can also be used as flash cards or revision cards and the cards are double sided, with a colourful polka dot design on the opposite side. Also attached, are a set of cards ( buyer to cut out) with each of the following persuasive devices names written on them. You can get your learners to place the correct statement cards under each of these headings.

This 131 page Powerpoint is aimed at Entry 3 - Level 1 learners. I call this lesson ‘back to basics’ and usually teach all of its content on day one of my course. I call it ‘primary and secondary’ school English rolled into three hours. It goes over the basic SPAG that they will need to know before they start writing for the writing module. It is a refreshers guide on the following: How to use syllables as a strategy to spell difficult words How to use a dictionary quickly and correctly What is a plural What is a prefix and what is a suffix What is verb tense How to use punctuation correctly Homophones and how to tell the difference between them Each section is a step by step guide that will help your learners to re-learn all the basic English skills that they need. There are different quizzes in the Powerpoint including: what punctuation marks are missing from these song words/song titles and spell the following word by breaking the word down into syllables…plus many more… I have designed the Powerpoint so that all learners can get involved. Just give them a white board and they can answer the questions as you read them out - great for differentiation. I have also attached three activities that I have made myself: Grammar activity - a house for sale advert that needs to be changed to the present tense A punctuation exercise Homophone exercise - using the story of Red Riding Hood to find all the misspelled homophones ( there are twenty in total and it is a great proofreading exercise). Skimming & Scanning Lesson. Includes a 13 page PPT on the differences between skimming and scanning techniques. Throughout the PPT, learners are given tips on how to effectively skim and scan a piece of text. Examples and questions are featured on the PPT throughout. Also included: 1 task booklet with a source document. There are nine questions, based on the text, which the students are to answer. This is an English Functional Skills reading revision guide that has been written for learners who will be taking the level 1 reading assessment. The guide includes an overview of all the information they will need to know in order to pass this assessment ( based on the NCFE level 1 assessment). A fun lesson filler.

Get your learners to create their own Encanto themed word search. Instructions: The learner will think of 12 words that are associated with this movie. They will write these words in the grid boxes and on the lines below the grid. Following this, the learner will then fill the remaining grid boxes with random letters of the alphabet. Get your learners to swap their completed word search with a peer, who will then complete it.
