This is an essential lesson for every KS3 student! An excellent lesson that teaches the students where to find many of the key features of the world (oceans, continents, mountain ranges etc.) as well as how to accurately describe their location. A useful lesson especially for students who think Africa is a country!

It is compares and contrasts the wide varieties of climate in Africa to each other, and to the UK. This is a really interesting and well resourced lesson that investigates the Sahara desert and the challenges of living life in such a hostile environment, This lesson can be used as a one off (stand alone) or as part of a whole unit (such as my Fantastic Places unit, also available in my shop). A really interesting lesson that forces the students to use their imaginations, decision making and empathy.

This can be used as a stand alone lesson about Easter Island or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson looks at Easter Island and how the greed and stupidity of it’s people nearly destroyed the island. This is an important story and can teach us lessons about the world we live in today. The students will get a chance to practice their analytical skills and will have a deeper look at the history of Easter Island. The final task gets the students to use empathy to illustrate the key turning points in the islands history. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. It also features differentiated activities for the less able. A fun and colourful lesson.

This lesson can be used as a one off lesson or as part of a larger unit of work. I use it as part of a longer unit called ‘Fantastic Places’ (available as a SoW in my shop) which is essentially an introductory unit to geography. This lesson looks at the wonderful African wilderness of Madagascar and gets the students to investigate two of it’s most famous residents: Lemurs and Sharks. A fun and informative lesson that will leave the students thirsting for more (geography!)

This lesson helps to teach the pupils how to write using geographical terminology. Aimed at KS3 it would also work well for KS2. This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.

The students are asked to consider: -What makes a place -What their place is like -What the difference between human and physical geography is. An excellent lesson.

This can be used as a stand alone lesson about the North Pole or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson has been observed more than once as has consistently been rated as outstanding. It looks at The North Pole (the Arctic), it’s history, it’s future and what it is like to live there. This lesson uses the ‘Home and Away’ groups technique - where students are put into ‘home’ groups, then split up again to become experts in one topic(away groups), they then get together again into their ‘home’ group and teach the rest of their group what they have learned. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. An interesting and important lesson.
