Ultimate Apostrophe Challenge

(0)
A 31 slide PowerPoint that introduces contractions and possessive apostrophes, provides a range of examples and then challenges students to spot the 9 missing apostrophes in a piece of writing. Students then design an Owner’s Guide to the Apostrophe after viewing a short sequence from the film Gremlins. Finally, students are given a handout where they have to use their knowledge of apostrophes to uncover the hidden messages. As an extension task students can then create their own hidden message using the template provided. Approximately 2 hours of apostrophe work, depending on the ability level of the students.

WJEC GCSE Media Section B 2017 Mock Exam Prep - Radio News

(0)
A PowerPoint mock exam and past paper questions (Word doc) for the WJEC GCSE Media News Exam (Section B - Radio News). The PowerPoint gives step by step advice on what to include for each question, as well as suggested answers, with the students encouraged to take notes. Then the students use the notes to have a go at the exam. This is ideal for a two hour lesson, with 15 minutes prep for each question, then 15 minutes to answer it. This has been used with my two year 11 exam groups, with the questions based on previous exams. You also receive a word document containing the actual exam questions from 2014 to 2016, with predictions on what will come up this year based on these past papers. In addition you will receive a PDF radio script template. This PowerPoint works alone but is best used alongside the "WJEC GCSE Media A3 Revision Mat - News Exam" resource available in the mediamnemonic shop for just £2.00 This is for the June 2017 exam.
Gender representation -Applied to a DVD cover

Gender representation -Applied to a DVD cover

(0)
In this detailed PowerPoint lesson, the concept of gender representation is introduced and then applied to The Adjustment Bureau DVD cover. Using the mnemonic GILT (graphics, image, layout and text) the front and back cover are deconstructed, with detailed notes provided that suggest what sort of observations students should be making. These are presented using the 'red-green' system, a handy way of ensuring students analyse rather than just describe. The lesson ends with an essay title that requires students to apply what they have learned. This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action, as the chosen contemporary text is an excellent example of gender stereotyping. This PowerPoint would be suitable as an hour long lesson. Please see my other resources at the mediamnemonics TES shop. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/mediamnemonics

(0)
A 21 slide PowerPoint lesson and handout introducing students to the concept of News Selection and News Values, using a mnemonic to aid recall. The lesson includes a hands on exercise where students work as news teams to choose stories for a newspaper front page, a task that helps them grasp the principle that events are selected and chosen for a particular audience. This is then linked to News Values and related to TV news (BBC News at 6 - Youtube link within PowerPoint). Students consolidate their knowledge and understanding completing a one page handout (Word doc.) Please read the notes section at the bottom of the PowerPoint when it edit view for guidance for each slide. This PowerPoint and activity is suitable for at least a 1 hour lesson and is lesson 7 in a series created for the WJEC GCSE Media exam (June 2018). The Evidence Based Lesson Plan

The Evidence Based Lesson Plan

(0)
Rather than wasting time on gimmicks, the latest educational fad or relying on hunches and guesswork, the Evidence Based Lesson Plan template is based entirely on the latest research about what actually works in the classroom. The key findings from Barack Rosenshine's review of cognitive science and classroom studies ('Principles of Instruction - Research Based Strategies that every teacher should know') are used to create an easy to use four part lesson plan template. Each component of the plan is clearly linked to the research to give the teacher every chance of delivering a highly effective lesson. The template also builds in differentiation by encouraging the teacher to think about their class as three distinct groups - lower, middle and higher ability. The resource is made up of a two page Word document and PowerPoint template: Word Document Page 1 - the lesson plan template. Page 2 - the research, clearly linked to each component of the lesson. Please note - this critical, detailed explanatory page is not visible on the preview images. Powerpoint Template A basic template ready for content to be added. Prompts on each slide. See the notes panel at the bottom of the screen in edit mode for the links to the research findings. The research paper is referenced in a recent TES article which can be found by pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.tes.com/news/school-news/breaking-views/are-these-7-pillars-classroom-practice
