A useful booklet for A Level students that consists of: -Basic guide to two different literary theories and an example (psychoanalytical criticism and a reading of Hamlet using it and Feminist criticism and a link to The Handmaid’s Tale). Extracts of 5 dystopian texts, alongside a range of questions for students to answer. Texts are: A Clockwork Orange, The Road, 1984, Brave New World and The Children of Men A glossary of key terms needed for A Level Language and Literature. My students found this very useful to ensure an understanding of the genre and the conventions. They also found the interview with Margaret Atwood engaging, as well as using the basics of the theories a good starting point for independent research and learning.

To help my A Level students, I created a useful guide with context, critics, historical information, a guide of literary terms and the poems they would need to analyse for their coursework. It includes information about the war and the poet, as well as influences and other poets linked to Owen. It also has copies of 11 of Owen’s poems for them to annotate so all of the information they need for their coursework is together.

A great, interactive lesson on identifying and analyzing persuasive language features in newspapers. Used with both year 7 and 8 to open up discussion and analysis. Whiteboards are a fun addition to the lesson. All resources, learning objectives and success criteria included in the lesson.

Training students to select individual words and phrases and link them to analysis and personal opinion. This lesson allows students to consider a range of themes and match them to short/medium quotes. From this point, students start to select individual words and begin 'embedding quotes' into their analysis- taking them a step above PEE structure. Students can use this to practice skills needed for their Eduqas English Literature GCSE examination. All success criteria, learning objectives and resources are included in the lesson, as well as embedded timers and a 'real world' link to ensure the lesson is 'Ofsted ready'. A complete lesson for GCSE students studying Willy Russell's Blood Brothers looking at the characters of Mickey and Edward. The lesson begins with a quick task on connectives to ensure students utilise them in their writing. After that, the students have the chance to revise the events and characters of the play before analysing quotes. A quote 'cheat sheet' is included in the PowerPoint for students who struggle to memorise quotes. The students then have the chance to write a practice essay with some key sentence starters included. All success criteria, learning objectives and resources included.

I have created a replica of the Eduqas Component 2 paper, where students need to analyse 19th and 21st century non fiction texts. This particular paper looks at hospital conditions in the Victorian era, and now. This will enable our students to understand the way in which the exam is set out to prepare for their GCSE English Exam.

To ensure our students understood their grades and progress, I created a tracking grid that shows each half terms grade, as well as a graph to map on their progress and a two line self made target to demonstrate they are responding to feedback and recognising how they can improve. This has been highly praised in observations.
