Hi there! I'm both an English and Geography teacher in London. I am currently working in an Outstanding school which is my second Outstanding school of my career in London after teaching in both Ireland and the Middle East. My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. It is done by many activities such as Q&A sessions, exercises, group/pair-work and many others.

In this lesson we focus on the setting of the bunk house at the start of chapter 2. This focuses on how it is presented and what it means to those who are living within the bunk house for students to link to context. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. There are also main tasks to consolidate the learning and ending with a plenary. This is lesson 8 from a 24 lesson scheme of work that I have created and is available as a bundle. This lesson focuses on the key moment where both George and Lennie are in an ‘interview’ with The Boss. This is an important piece of dialogue as it gives us information about Lennie and George’s relationship. The students’ main task is to re-create this by writing their own dialogue and then presenting to class. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. This is a detailed scheme of work (over 40 pages) that I created as part of our new scheme of work for the upcoming academic year. The SOW places emphasis on the students’ prior learning before this unit and this is mentioned in detail at the start. Each of the 24 lessons have a similar structure and can be easily followed. This is a full scheme of work unit I created for ‘Of Mice and Men’. The bundle includes everything you need including a 40 page SOW and also 20 PowerPoint lessons. Each lessons have a structure of a ‘Do Now’, Think-Pair-Share, Information, Main Task and Plenary along with others. The 40 page SOW is a detailed description of each lesson and can be used as a guide. By buying as a bundle it saves you over £30!! The bundle only allows 20 resources. Lesson one shows students the context of Northern Ireland and a how ‘The Troubles’ impacted Longley. It also gives students an introduction to the poem and by completing various tasks. Lesson 2 analyses the poem in more detail in terms of both language and structure. It allows students to form their own opinion of the meaning of the poem through probing questions. Both of these lessons were used for remote learning but can easily be used in the classroom also.

In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.
