This lesson is the second lesson for the new GCSE breadth study - Migrants in Britain, and it continues the analysis of causes of migration in the Medieval Era, with a focus on Jewish migration. Students will learn: About the effects of the Diaspora The role of the Jewish community as money lenders and the reasons for William I’s invitation How Jewish migration started to move outside London Students will draw on their understanding of how to write a 4 mark answer from last lesson, and will watch a clip about how well the Jews settled in England, and anti-semitism at the time. A work booklet containing sample questions; sample answers and examination technique tips and advice for this course is also available. Duration: 1 hour

One hundred questions in 60 minutes. This quiz can be done individually; in pairs or in groups depending on the size of the A Level class. It enables students to revise the content of the Year 12 course through competition, and is fun as an end of term activity. I often give prizes to the students who score the highest, although I have never had a 100% success yet!!! The questions are challenging and require 1 word/one sentence answers. Answers are included for self-assessment. This resource assesses and consolidates student knowledge while they are having fun.

This resource was created for the American Dream unit at A level although can be used for any post 16 lesson on President Nixon. It investigates Nixon’s economic and social policy and links both to how he got re-elected in 1972. It contains key terms; tasks and research. This would probably take 2 lessons to teach.

This resource has been created for either key stage 2 students transitioning to secondary school, or key stage 1 students moving into middle school. It has a humanities theme and contains tasks; ice-breakers and games to help the students relax; build confidence and make relationships while they learn. It begins with an ice-breaker. The students then learn about chronology - a paper task in pairs, and then a challenge where they have to move around the room talking to each other. It end with a geography and RE game where again all of the new students can learn about each other. You will need about an hour to do all of the activities, however some can be cut out if time does not permit.

This is a 3x1hour lesson which starts with the legacy Henry VIII left for his son Edward VI, and then moves into looking at the historiography of the Mid-Tudor Crisis. It considers contemporary source materials and activities which will span about 3 hours of class time and 2 hours of independent learning. This lesson focuses on considering historical interpretations of religious change under Edward VI. It takes about 2 hours to teach, and can be used for unit 1C of the AQA A level history specification. It can also be used with boards covering similar topics.

This lesson has been created to help GCSE students to answer questions which require them to explain how interpretation differ, and give valid reasons why they differ. It is taught through explaining the concept of interpretations of history; understanding the role of an historian; examples of model answers and opportunities to practice examples of GCSE questions. This is particularly useful to consolidate higher prior attaining students conceptual understanding and to provide a logical route to accessing the marks for these question types for lower prior attaining students.

There are about 5 or 6x 1 hour lessons included in this power point, and they provide the opportunity for historical investigation into the three distinct periods of Henry VIII’s foreign policy and his attempts to secure the succession. It contains a variety of teacher led and student led learning opportunities culminating in a judgment regarding the success of Henry VIII’s foreign policy.

It invlves the evaluation of Thomas Cromwell with particular reference to the Elton Thesis. It provides A Level students with the opportunity to carry out extended reading activities, and to evaluate various historical interpretations and challenges to the Elton Thesis.

They start by looking at the structure of society in the reign of Henry VIII, followed by a focus on the key rebellions and their causes. The last part of the power point considers the social and economic impact that religious upheaval had on England and English society. This covers about 5 hours of learning.

This lesson has been created to recognise VE Day, and to help students look at source materials to reach a value judgment. It is suitable for most ages but particularly useful for either key stage 2 or 3. It starts with information about VE day and the background to the war in the air with clips; images and statistics. It then presents the students with a wide range of source material which they have to categorise by making inferences and tabulating information. The main task is a piece of writing in the form of a newspaper report where students are judged on how effectively they communicate the conclusions they have drawn from the sources. The lesson ends with a class discussion which can be differentiated. This is an appropriate lesson for VE Day, and takes about 1 hour to complete all activities.

This is the SEVENTEENTH lesson for the EDEXCEL GCSE Super Power Relations and the Cold War which examines the consequences of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It contains various tasks and examination practice with modeled answers necessary for success at this level. Everything is included within the power point and no text book is needed.
