Gothic narrative writing and planning can be tricky, but this lesson support students in effectively planning out characters, protagonists, antagonists, villains, monsters, settings, plot, structure and themes before students write their own Gothic narratives and self-assess their stories through a clearly structured mark scheme. Power and Conflict Poetry 2025 revision for English Literature Paper 2 revision lesson on comparing two anthology poems and exploring how their structures are similar and different and WHY.
We explore Storm on the Island and Exposure, around the theme of the power of nature, analysing how the use of structure and form conveys key messages and attitudes on the power of nature, working as a template for students to compare structures on other key themes and for other poems, in turn helping students to prepare for the exam in the 2025 summer.
The lesson includes differentiated and adaptive learning approaches, detailed theme notes and more.

This activity focuses on the story of Guy Fawkes and the plotters, their plans and how they were caught and executed, before investigating why we don’t celebrate foiled terrorist plots today. It can be used in form time as part of literacy focus, or in an English lesson for KS3/4 GCSE comprehension training.

We focus on the opening sentences to speeches and think about the most effective ways of beginning speeches depending on the purpose and audience of the speech being written. Students are given topics and audiences and are challenged to write their own speech openings using modelled examples. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde lesson on Chapter 3. As we are introduced to the character of Dr Henry Jekyll in Chapter 3, we look at how he is portrayed to the reader, how his emotions change as Utterson tries to discuss Mr Hyde, and then we create analytical paragraphs based on strict success criteria.
