The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in English, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-10, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. There are 6 English to English grids, labelled with Big Ben, where learners are prompted with the English words, and look for them in English in the grid. For additional vocab consolidation, Grids 1-4 also feature a German word list that learners have to complete, as extra practice for saying and writing the numbers together — this works really well for embedding language. Grids 5 & 6 require learners to work out what the numbers are in English, and write them out again in English, for additional spelling practice. There are also 4 German to English grids, labelled with a***traditional German House*** , where the prompt words are given in German, and learners have to find the English equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in English, they also complete the English word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors a common direction of reading from left to right in English, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. There is a single grid per page, as younger learners of English as a second / subsequent or foreign language are still developing literacy skills in their first language - I’ve found too that older beginner learners benefit from very clear and accessible worksheets, definitely avoiding too much text on a single page. I’ve indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional number vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. I always create English to French grids too - that’s an effective way of consolidating vocabulary, and there’s a vocabulary list to complete too. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. focusing on a range of German verb groups in the present tense, with 150 conjugation questions (750 conjugations in total), and complete answer keys ideal for advanced beginner German students who are consolidating conjugtion skills, beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The verbs groups are: regular German verbs irregular & mixed German verbs high-frequency German verbs German reflexive verbs German separable verbs The workbooks focus on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with German verbs, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including the pronoun man form being identical, pointing out also that man is commonly used in German, often also meaning we, unlike the pronoun one in English. There are certain complexities with German reflexive verbs, as learners whose first language does not have equivalent reflexive verbs can find identifying the correct reflexive pronoun, and particularly dative reflexive pronouns, and positioning them correctly, quite challenging. Students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation, and with those whose first language is English, I frequently see attempts such as ich bin sich waschen for I am getting washed or similarly ich mache / tue sich erinnern for I do remember. Each set has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, reflect on what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. They also use this page to note any new verbs they learn, which helps them build up a comprehensive verb vocabulary. It’s also a useful tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular activity with my students. The answer key is a 6-page book which is absolutely essential in my view. Answer keys help students develop more independence in their learning, and provide them with an additional opportunity to engage with language and grammar. They also genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and particularly each others’ - work! Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-100 in English, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and sentence questions, which feature mathematical language in English and more complex linguistic structures. Hyphens are really important in English numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. Ideal for Primary French Immersion French and beginner French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French. There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. They’ll have to look carefully at some of the words though - for a little extra challenge, sometimes I’ve changed words slightly - such as using ‘an elf’, where the reference list shows ‘the elves’. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These posters are always really popular with my students and great for the beginning of a new school year to decorate your learning environment. They’re really useful for creating an***instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe***. There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in German showing European countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as Französische Republik - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Frankreich to display. The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and The European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round display. It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom decor posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Europe map or plain, so 144 posters in total. I’ve found having the posters in my classroom provides an instant introduction to the Spanish-speaking world. They’re also great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too. I often ask ‘quick questions’ such as ***¿Cuál es la capital de…?***, or ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner Spanish learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important - they’re a great tool for encouraging students to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish learning. I’ve also found that there can be several (or more!) countries that students don’t actually know, or have never heard of, and the posters are really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of the wider world. There are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or black wave. Laminate them if you can, as they hang really well, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years. In Grids 1-4, students search for a particular country. In Grids 5 & 6, they search for a range of capital cities. Grid 7 gives 16 capital cities as prompts, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. The cards feature language and structures that my students generally meet in the advanced beginner Spanish of their Spanish programme, including a range of tenses. The reference book includes all the questions and answers written out in Spanish. It’s an essential learning support resources for my students, who use it as a general writing frame to guide and inform their own creative writing. It’s really useful for mini-translation, whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice too. We use the notes and next steps template to reflect on learning, what we might reasonably do to progress learning, and to inform and support whole-group discussion about learning in general. The question and answer writing card templates give students a great opportunity to apply Spanish practically and creatively, as they put together both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too, and really popular with my students. ADVANCED BEGINNER SPANISH INTERMEDIATE SPANISH CONVERSATION TRANSLATION WORKSHEETS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This set of Spanish conversation translation worksheets is a companion activity to Spanish Conversation Starters 1, though it works just as well as a standalone translation exercise for***advanced beginner Spanish*** and intermediate Spanish students. The content mirrors that of the conversation starters, and really does help students consolidate and embed essential advanced beginner Spanish to intermediate Spanish language across all key language skills. All the sentences are in question format. There are 200 translation questions in total: 100 from Spanish to English, and then repeated from English to Spanish. Translation is a specific skill that students need to work on carefully and gradually as they progress in their language learning. It’s quite common for beginner language learners to attempt to translate word for word from their first / home language, and though this will work occasionally, it frequently leads to errors. I remind students that there can be several ways to translate correctly: the important thing is to be sure that the original intent and meaning of the question is replicated in the translation. We discuss a range of possible translations, both into Spanish and into English, as a whole-group, which is a really popular and successful language learning activity. I always include dual translation, that is from Spanish to English, and then from English to Spanish, as this really encourages students to think about language, and to be creative with it. The questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of tenses such as preterite and conditional. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning. The translations broadly address the following themes: = personal information = family & routines at home = hobbies & free time = likes & dislikes = local environment = food & drink = school & studies = sport & healthy living = countries & languages = weather & seasons Have a browse in my store for more Spanish independent learning activities, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

It’s useful to show students a clear map of Africa, so that students can visualise the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Africa, but also as a location in relation to other African countries and capital cities. There are two formats to choose from - Africa map background or plain without frame. I laminate my classroom learning decor, even though it’s extra prep time and expense. The posters display better, as flashcards they’re a lot easier to manipulate, and they do remain in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to recycle them many times. The posters work just as well in the world languages classroom as well as the geography classroom, aligning learning between language and knowledge of the world.
