Standard Index Form (Collect a Joke)
This is a collect a joke activity which requires pupils to collect the letters to give the punch line to a bad maths joke!
Pupils start where indicated, make a note of the letter in the middle of the row (cross it out to keep track) and then work out the answer to the question below. They then find this answer on the top row and again make a note of the letter underneath, thus collecting the punchline ‘because they have sine and cosine to get a tan’.
Easily laminated to be used with whiteboard pens time and time again.
All our resources come complete with instructions, solutions and ideas to stretch or support pupils.

This pack includes eight fortune teller activities involving indices, two basics of evaluating and applying the laws of indices and six of increasing difficulty applying the laws to fractional, negative indices.
The indices included are
Laws of indices
Evaluating indices
Fractional indices
Negative indices
Fractional and negative indices
Solving equations with fractional indices
Solving equations with unknown indices,
Solving equations with unknown indices II by forming a quadratic
I have included screen shots of some of the pages so that you can see the level of challenge present. There is a how to fold and how to play pupil friendly instruction sheet included. Pupils should be encouraged to show their workings in their books or on whiteboards.

Heat Maps can be displayed or printed for each pair of pupils. Each heat map increases in difficulty indicated by the hotness, the redder/hotter the more difficult the question. Pupils choose a cell to start at and perform the given operation with the corresponding element of the question from the x and y axis.
This heat map requires pupils to find the distance between coordinates from all four quadrants, therefore more tricky than the other “Distance Between Coordinates 1; Heat Map”. This resource is available as part of the Heat Map Bundle available in the NumberLoving TES shop.

Fan and Pick promotes cooperative learning, creating situations for discussions around finding the correct answer and not just what the answer is.
They can be used as a plenary activity to determine what learning has taken place, used to determine pupils prior knowledge to a topic and of course great for revision.
This Fan and Pick has a set of 12 question cards, differentiated by hotness and covers simplifying ratios and sharing amounts by a given ratio.
If you’ve enjoyed this resource you should check out the Fan and Pick Bundle! Please note this resource is also available as part of that bundle.

Test your students’ ability to spot mistakes and develop their understanding with this activity. Pupils are given two different answers to a question and have to determine which is correct. They then have to explain what misconception has led to the incorrect answer.
Pupils are tasked with assessing answers given to questions on vectors. The first question asks for vectors on a parallelogram and the second a parallelogram with a midpoint.
