The main focus of the lesson is the role and contributions of women to Britain’s war effort during World War One. Students will examine both the positive and negative experiences of women during the war, be able to describe the various roles that women took on and then carry out their own research into the topic. This is a fully resources lesson which includes a warmup, starter task, engaging background information, various learning activities, challenge tasks and learning reviews. Slide 8-9: Activity 2: The experiences of women in the war – students read statements and mark if they show a positive or negative experience of war. This is a fully resourced lesson which can avoid the use of the text book if needed. RECAP: Filling in the missing terms task. This can be done on the board or printed off for student books. STARTER: Students have a wide range of police techniques to look at and have to select the ones that would have been used at the time and the ones that would NOT be used at the time. Answers given with animations. TASK 1: Students given a blank diagram which they will fill in to show the variety of police methods used at the time. Students have space to include a basic picture of this method and written specifics. (See image). TASK 2: Students given an exam question based on usefulness of two sources. An example answer has been written and they should highlight the various skills needed before attempting their own answers. PLENARY: Key words from the lesson are shown with the idea of students being able to define them. This lesson covers the teaching of the three Grand Alliance conferences at Tehran, Yalta and Potsdam. The theme of the lesson is the consequences of the conferences and the declining relationship with the Soviet Union. STARTER: A recap of of basic Cold War terms with an odd one out quiz. This lesson concludes this part of the topic which covers ‘Conflict at Home’ and Civil Rights. The lesson examines the impact of the assassination of Martin Luther King and uses this to help evaluate how much progress the civil rights movement had made by 1975. I have included two fact sheets (one slightly differentiated) with the information needed for this part of the course which can be found on the final two slides. Therefore, no other resources are needed for the teaching of this lesson. In this lesson, students will learn about the many discoveries of the Scientific Revolution. Students will be able to define what historians mean by the term Scientific Revolution as well as the descriptions of the ‘Age of Faith’, the ‘Age of Reason’ and the ‘Enlightenment’. They will then study the various discoveries of the time and think about which of these discoveries was the most significant. The lesson will help students think about the idea of significance and guide students through the process of completing their own living graph diagram about the discoveries. It will also then guide students through completing an extended piece of writing about the discoveries of the Scientific Revolution. The lesson contains a variety of discussion tasks, warm up start activities, printable resources, and learning reviews as well as engaging background information and challenge questions for higher ability students. There is a choice of printable resources to suit different ages and abilities.
