(0)
In this lesson, students review the following word parts in order to increase their vocabulary knowledge: cred, circum, fract, mal, centi, phob, chron, and centi. This packet begins with a general lesson on breaking apart words. Next, students are asked to try to define some words that have the word roots as they are introduced. Then, they are asked to draw pictures of the definitions to help them remember them. After that, they are given a long list of words that use their new vocabulary and challenged to see how many words they can use to write a paragraph. The fifth activity asks learners to make a word search with their new word list for a classmate to solve, followed by a color by code, word art, and a quiz to check retention. Supports Common Core and Reading Foundational Standards. No instructional lesson plan needed. Simply print and teach! This is a great activity for introducing or reviewing base words, prefixes and suffixes and an excellent resource for writing practice since it asks learners to apply their knowledge by writing sentences with new words. Ideal for guided practice, independent practice, morning work, homework, intervention, Special Education, Adult Education, and enrichment. Also great as a summer review resource. Answer keys included! Note: This resource was created with my GED students in mind since studying word parts helps them become better test takers and reduces test anxiety. Word Parts: Vocabulary/Roots and Affixes Lesson 1

This lesson explains the process of breaking words into parts to identify meaning. It gives several examples, including breaking down the longest word in the English language to derive a definition. Next, it introduces eight common roots and goes through several activities to help students memorize these. First, it asks learners to break down a few familiar words for meaning. Next, students are asked to draw the meanings as a mnemonic device. Then, students are given a list of words that use these roots and asked to write a paragraph using as many of those words as possible. Finally, there is a short matching quiz followed by a review of the entire lesson. This packet is great for introducing a vocabulary unit. Also good for morning work, homework, independent practice, test review/prep, enrichment, and remediation. I designed this lesson with my GED students in mind. The Science and Social Studies vocabulary are often challenging, and this lesson can help learners begin to see large words as a puzzle to solve, helping to reduce test anxiety. Finally, it makes learning vocabulary fun! Students are asked to solve the mystery of the new word with activities that ask them to use different parts of the brain, even their own artistic talents! Subordinating Conjunctions: A Grammar Resource

(0)
This grammar packets contains 30 exercises for students to complete using subordinating conjunctions. Fifteen of these conjunctions are used, and students are able to practice knowing when a comma is needed and when it is not by filling in the blanks. Each pair of sentences uses the selected subordinating conjunction twice, once with it at the beginning of the sentence, and again in the middle. When a sentence begins with the selected word, a comma is placed in the middle of the sentence indicating that there will need to be separation between the independent and dependent clauses. On the other hand, no comma is included when the word is placed in the middle of the sentence. This is a great activity to use on a unit on commas, on introductory clauses or on subordinating conjunctions only. Product is excellent for homework practice, independent practice, remediation, acceleration, test prep, or review. Answer key with sample sentences is included. Seller
