This assembly uses humour to appeal to secondary age students and reiterate that Christmas does not have to mean not looking at your study books for 2-3 weeks. This assembly is one that stays in students’ memories and resonates with them for a long time afterwards. The resource comes with a complete script and the powerpoint is fully animated to ensure that the visuals match the presentation.
This is an assembly that my students loved and laughed about for a long time after first presenting this.
WARNING: DO NOT SHOW THIS TO ANY YEAR GROUP WHO MIGHT STILL BELIEVE IN SANTA! :-)
This super bundle includes offers an engaging route through this new GCSE text by H G Wells. In this bundle you will find an array of engaging activities on all chapters combined with informative slides and tasks that promote independent learning. The powerpoints include assessments and whole text revision activities and resources providing students with a solid knowledge base on which to respond to essays based on themes, characters, language and/or structure. This is everything you need in a clear format to teach this text.
This lesson is designed for CPD sessions/teacher training as a guide to professional conduct and responsibilities. It includes a number of engaging discussion points and interactive activities plus access to an online Kahoot game and demonstrates a wide range of pedagogical strategies including the inclusion of literacy and numeracy in the curriculum.
This resource includes tasks on building and using different sentence structures, how to use more ambitious punctuation, vocabulary choices, writing devices: figurative language, opening sentences, show don't tell and the wwwww method of writing construction plus some highly engaging tasks based on the mysterious images left by Harris Burdick. My students loved this unit of work and have continued to produce high quality pieces of writing. My other resource on David Didau's slow writing would work really well as a follow up to this unit.
A complete analysis of language, form and structure including indications for content according to grades and challenge tasks. This lesson is engaging, whilst also developing inquiry and independent learners. This is everything you need to teach this poem.
This lesson includes a range of tasks to engage students, including information on context and interpretations of the poem. The lesson includes extension activities, grading criteria and DIRT tasks. This is a really effective lesson to use when studying poetry at KS3 level to gently introduce students to the strengthened demands of the GCSE (9-1) syllabus.
This assembly is ideal for use as a return to school assembly: it draws on the musings of Jay Shetty, an international speaker who is entirely relateable to young people today. This assembly motivates students to think about who they are and what they want to achieve and to understand that being different is fine, you take you own route through to success. The link in this resource takes you to the video for this assembly and also a range of other useful video resources for future assemblies. My own students were transfixed by this assembly and then went on to refer back to it throughout the academic year, which is why I wanted to share it. This is a perfect assembly for returning year 10s through to year 13s but is equally accessible for younger students who need a sense of direction.
This assembly uses a range of strategies to engage students, include visual images, thought provoking questions and a challenge to take away with them.

This lesson introduces KS3 students to the conventions of the Detective Genre using short film clips and a fun game. This works really well as either the first lesson of a topic on this genre or as a transition day activity as the students will enjoy the lesson and be left feeling that studying English is not always reading and writing.
This resource takes you through a range of activities that explore language, form and structure alongside thematic links and theory. This lesson incorporates drama activities and creative activities to ensure students enjoy learning about Shakespeare's play. This lesson will take between 5-7 hours in teaching time. This is also available as part of a complete unit of work on this text if preferred.
After the success of my first compilation of Dingbats images I’ve now created a further mind bending quiz, this is perfect to fill gaps in tutor sessions or PSHE closers and has SMSC content embedded throughout. This would work with students from year 7 upwards.
This lesson is highly differentiated, with learning goal sheets to ensure progress is evident and checked/reviewed at several checkpoints during the lesson. It also includes a detailed lesson plan and group activities that are then jigsawed to ensure all students are responsible for their own learning. I have alphabetised the poem for use as a starter activity and created a more accessible question sheet for students likely to achieve grade 2/3. This is a really good lesson to show the students working harder than you do!

This bundle includes all 15 of the Relationship Poems from the Edexcel Anthology. This is all you would need to teach these poems and would save you hours in research and preparation. Each resource is prepared to observation standard using the mark scheme and is fully differentiated, including SMSC links, peer assessment and engaging activities that draw on numeracy and literacy. I have bundled these as a part collection to allow a reduction to the overall cost. This lesson is an excellent introduction the feminist background and theory, it uses an extract from Charlotte Gilman Perkins 'The Yellow Wallpaper' and leads students through a feminist reading of the text. This lesson includes references and explanations of 'Herstory' and 'L'ecriture Feminine' and proved highly progressive with my year 12 students.
This bundle incorporates 5 powerpoints that take you through a step by step analysis of key scenes and each Act considering, language, form, structure, characters and themes. It includes some theory on the text and in the final powerpoint draws on activities that engage students with the overview alongside using this to access exam style questions. This fun lesson teaches the accurate use of commas in lists and draws on a Geography based activity to evidence the students application of knowledge. The powerpoint is highly animated to aid engagement with what might otherwise be quite a dry subject.
