This lesson is carefully scaffolded to ensure that students struggling to achieve a grade 5 are fully supported in their learning. Exemplar material is offered, regular reinforcement of learning and steady building of skills are all used to ensure all students are able to write a grade 5 speech, should this come up in the exams.

A complete 4 week Transition or Introductory Unit of work for KS3. This is engaging with lots of interesting activities to complete and ending with the creation of a 'Detective Game Board'. My students loved this scheme of work and it enabled us to set classroom rules for learning within a relaxed bubble of learning. The resource includes week by week powerpoints plus extracts, homework and an easy to follow scheme of work.

This lesson starts with an engaging visual activity that engages students with the concept of tone in art before then asking them to apply this thinking to some literary extracts. The lesson continues to draw on the DIRT strategy to improve and assess work and establish success criteria for using the right tone when writing an article. This is an excellent revision lesson to refine techniques for writing Transactional Writing pieces for the GCSE exams.

An in depth study of Act 1 of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. This is designed for GCSE teaching and includes a range of activities including: an activity that breaks down the language used by Shakespeare ensuing that this is not a barrier to learning, drama activities, quotation finds, matching activities, transactional writing activities and debate. This is 4-6 hours of teaching and includes reference to themes, motifs, use of language and structure: everything students need to know for their exams in an accessible and fun format.

This is the first of several lessons on this new option on GCSE syllabuses. These lessons are differentiated and supported whilst also offering challenge and options to create revision resources in preparation for the final examinations. These lesson would work as well for KS3 groups who need a strengthened syllabus in preparation for the more robust (9-1) specifications as for KS4 students preparing for exams. This resource is challenging through differentiation and equally supports the middle/lower ability learners. This powerpoint offers a mix of informative slides, with activity slides to ensure that everyone is stretched and engaged. This lesson concludes with a comparative essay title to enable learners to evidence their understanding of the devices at play in this text. If you only buy one lesson in this series, this would be a useful one to begin to tie together the use of structure, narrative, themes and characters. This lesson is differentiated (Group 3 is definitely harder than any of the other group tasks) and facilitates students' engagement with the real purpose of this chapter through paired and group question led activities.

This final lesson in this collection of resources asks students to consider the cyclical nature of some of the narrative strands, whilst also acknowledging the chronological order of Silas and Eppie's life together that breaks free from this structure. This lesson revisits the question of predetermined fate examined in earlier lessons and links back to the context against which this novel was written. This resource explores the third Part of this curious novel investigating literary devices, close textual reading, character studies, intertextuality, an excellent SMSC task inference, comprehension and a concluding activity involving creating a cartoon storyboard to support students engagement with the structure of this section of the novel., This powerpoint offers inks to International Mark Schemes (if required). This book is unusual and engaging, as such it would make an excellent Reading Group study, Extra Curricular Reading Study, Stretch and Challenge, independent novel study, exemplar of ‘how to’ teach a novel for an NQT and a great resource to use for KS3 tutoring or teaching alike.

This paper is constructed and is based on exploration of the natural world. This might work particularly well for boys as it is engaging (and a little gruesome, in parts). The questions follow the style of the Edexcel specimen assessment materials and I’ve also included a detailed indicative content to work with the mark scheme so that this is useful for parents, homeschooled learners, PRUs, tutors, independent students and teachers alike. This resource is an original constructed paper in the style of the AQA (9-1) exam papers based on the novel ‘The Children of Men’ by P D James. This novel considers a futuristic society in which the last generation has been born and provides a fascinating extract for analysis, particularly for reluctant boys!
