This 12 slide flipchart and six-page workbook include a variety of small group and individual activities that all focus on lower-level English skills (UK E1-E2) for learners with special needs. The text entry and activities are themed around a 'Snow and Ice' news story and how the weather can impact travel. This workbook introduces the topics of multiplication and division and takes into account learners that are coping with learning difficulties and disabilities. The questions and situations are colourful and contextualised to assist with engagement. At 21 pages in length and 7 activities, this would stretch over a few lessons or be an acceptable homework assignment. My learners always enjoy this workbook and I find it is a good way to start the year and gauge previously learned knowledge. Enjoy!

This is a set of three colour-based communication cards that are a wonderful aid for the able and disabled alike. However, they can be particularly useful with those that have an autistic spectrum disorder. They are an easy and effective way for people to let staff members, classmates, friends or almost anyone know how they feel about communicating at that point in time. Each card is 3 x 4 and fit easily inside a name badge holder. Alternatively, you can laminate them and use a hole punch before threading them onto a lanyard. This set includes both a UK and US friendly versions; along with a set for those that are familiar with this system and also one for those that are new to it. Do you have a student with poor self-initiation and self-advocacy skills? Then give this form a try! This is a simple spreadsheet that contains spaces for the student's daily schedule, as well as columns for 'I accomplished...,' 'I still need to...,' and 'I need support with.' This can be a manual handwriting task for the student, but it functions very well as a communal document that the student, parent/guardians, and all teachers can access throughout the day and week.

This hour and a half lesson (including presentation, lesson plan, print out and plenary) addresses the busy days that people might lead and the different activities they might do. It also covers appropriate times of day for certain activities to happen. All you need to add is appropriate daily items images for learners to cut out. This is a starter activity that is great to use with your special needs students (life skills level or autistic) the first day of each semester. This workbook, which includes differentiated learning outcomes for scaffolded learning, can last anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour, depending on the level of your students and whether you use the extension activities or not. This is a short 'toolbox' lesson that teaches students a way to do multiplication that doesn't require a calculator or having multiplication tables memorized. This activity is to help students identify which planning method works best for them when they are writing an essay. More traditional ways, such as outlines are addressed, as well as more visual ways such as mind mapping and graphic organizers. Additionally, the TEXI paragraph structure strategy is included. Depending on your student's skill level, this lesson can take anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half. This pack includes an assignment sheet for the students as well as a PowerPoint presentation. You or the students will need to provide an essay that they need to produce a plan for.
