Portable mud kitchen for outdoor play

(1)
Portable mud kitchen for outdoor play This resource has been designed to encourage children to be creative, direct their own learning, have fun and spend time using and developing their skills outdoors. The wood cookies are the kitchen cooker hobs! The aim of this resource is to enable your child to create their own unique mud kitchen that can be transported to a setting of your choice, for example; the local park, your garden, back yard, a woodland, forest, river, lake, beach, anywhere you like! All you need to do is find an empty plastic box (cracker box)/ biscuit tin and so on as long as they are approximately the size of a shoe box, can be bigger if needed and have a lid to pop the kitchen equipment in. Your child can have fun choosing which images to use and place onto the box, they can either cut out one of the pre designed kitchens or select images from the other pages. Choosing which images they would like as the hob/ hob buttons etc. Children could search for natural objects such as pine cones to place on and use as their buttons if they wish. It may be a good idea to laminate before sticking or find a see through material that could be stuck around the finished box to protect from the rain and to enable to be wiped clean. Fill the mud kitchen box with equipment such as; small measuring pans, spoons, small bowls, dishes and have fun! This resource could also be use to support the teaching of childcare and development, the students could have a go at creating one to assist them with how a child could learn and develop from this activity- suitable for studying degrees, CACHE, AQA child development.
