A range of ideas for lessons based on building a description of a city and/or countryside setting in WW2. The descriptions could be used as openers in a story based around evacuees who were sent to live in a rural location. This is a tried and tested classroom resource.
Pupils should collect ideas from the pictures provided and use the model text to write an effective description.
A blank vocabulary grid and a copy of the success criteria for writing an effective description is also included. This resource could be used with older pupils.

Learners will brainstorm descriptions of the location and scene of Dracula’s mysterious and eerie castle. They then write a detailed account using the information they have gathered.

It describes the death defying World Trade Center tightrope walk performed by Frenchman Philippe Petit in 1974 (as recently portrayed in the 2015 film - The Walk).
