This resource is aimed at upper KS2 pupils (Years 5&6) but could also be used with years 7&8. There are opportunities for focused research, proof reading, writing in chronological order and producing a final piece of biographical writing. Lesson based on the declaration of war on Germany in 1939. Tried and tested classroom resource. Pupils should make notes on the key facts given in the video clip. They will then produce their own news reader's script to break the news to the British public using the model text as an example. Two note taking templates and a copy of the success criteria for writing an effective news reader report is also included. This resource could be used with older pupils. *Please note the video clip is a modern colour interpretation of how the news would have been reported in 1939. The quality is significantly better.
