This is an English activity which can be used with primary and secondary aged learners. The learner will look at each of the 12 emojis and will be asked to write a simile which describes the emotion of each emoji. A fun English task!

Get your learners to pick one of the characters from a book they are reading and then create a Facebook profile for that character. They will fill in all of the information that they know about them from the book and add other additional presumed information of their own. They will also write a status that sums up what that character is feeling at a particular moment in the book. A fun character analysis activity.

This is a 31 page PowerPoint which can be used as an introduce your class to Dennis Kelly’s play DNA. The PPT contains eight separate options that can be used as an introductory lesson to the play. The students are to make predictions about what the play is about and what happens in the play. Front book cover analysis with 9 questions to answer relating to the front cover. Taboo - a word, guessing relating to the play. The objective of the game is for a student to sit with their back to the interactive whiteboard. The other students give the student clues and they have to guess the word on the board behind them. Word Scramble - Instead of the teacher giving students a short summary of the play, students will be asked to find this out for themselves by unscrambling the letters on the board. First Lines - Students will make predictions to what the play is about by reading and analysing the first few lines and answering 6 set questions. Students will watch a short news report which relates to the topic of the play. They will then make predictions about the play based on this report. Headline - play prediction task Pictionary - Each group will be given a copy of identical pictures. The aim is for the student’s group to work together to connect the pictures and try to predict what the play may be about. 5 minutes, 5 facts - Task

4 X A3 Worksheets Summary Worksheet - A resource to use as your class reads through the play. After each act, get your learners to write a short summary. They can also note down any themes that run throughout the play. This can also be useful for when learners need to revise the play and the key scenes. Characters Worksheet - A resource to help learners identify and analyse the different characters as they read through the play. They can write down a description of each character and their personality traits. Context Worksheet - Get your students to research the context of the play. Settings Worksheet - Get your students to write about how each of the settings /places on the page are connected to the plot.

A practice booklet which is based on the City and Guilds Entry 3 reading practice assessment. Ten questions and a source document based around the current issue of the XL Bully dog’s ban.

Based on the City and Guilds criteria. This booklet has a four activities to help E3 students prepare for their writing assessment. This is not a copy of the assessment and is structured slightly differently. Activity 1: Place the following words in alphabetical order (list of four words). Activity 2: Write the plural of the words in bold (list of four words). Activity 3: Write the correct spellings for the following words (six incorrect spellings taken from the spelling criteria booklet).
