Easter Around the World - Research Activities Do you want to broaden your pupils’ knowledge of the world while working on their research skills? This resource is really easy to use in your classroom – there are 16 printable worksheets which cover 15 countries and include a blank sheet if there is a specific country you would like included that is not in the selection. Pupils can then undertake their own research (at home or in class) to find out more about the Easter traditions in these countries. Pupils are asked to • find out what Easter is called in the country • draw and colour the country’s flag • write how Easter is celebrated in the country • add a picture (drawn or printed) to illustrate how Easter in celebrated there The countries included are: • Bermuda • Brazil • Bulgaria • France • Germany • Greece • Hungary • Indonesia • Italy • the Netherlands • Norway • Poland • Scotland • Spain • Sweden This is great way for pupils to research other cultures. All the countries have been chosen as they have a special way to celebrate Easter - my favourite is Bermuda with their kites! On completion, pupils could present their findings to the class or they could be displayed for the whole school to see. Pupils would also love to be shown YouTube clips of these celebrations and could even try to recreate some of them… I’d love to hear if any classes make their own kites!

Get pupils to create their own word searches or crosswords to share with their classmates. This resource includes two word search templates (12 x 12 and 15 x 15) and one crossword template.

A fantastic board game (think along the lines of Cranium) to celebrate European Day of Languages. Designed to try to appeal to every pupil in the classroom, there are both skill tasks and question cards with pupils being given the opportunity to write and form letters using unknown alphabets, say words in both new and familiar languages and answer general knowledge questions. Instructions: - Pupils play in small groups of 2-6 players. - Place all the question and skill cards face down in the correct place on the board. - Pupils choose a star to start on. - Roll the dice, the pupil with the highest number starts. - Pupils take it in turns to roll the dice and move clockwise around the board. - If a pupil lands on “Q”, another player picks up the “Q” card and asks them the question. If the pupil answers the question correctly they get to keep the card. - If a pupil lands on “S” they pick up the “S” card and complete the skill. If the pupil completes the skill they get to keep the card. - If a pupil lands on the dice they get to roll again. - There is no finish position. The game continues until all the cards have been won or time is up and the person with the most cards wins.
