This is the BEST way to introduce Shakespeare's language to children. They love it! I often start with a group of children who say they will never be able to speak Shakespeare's language and end with children wanted to take this resource home to use in their own time. The best part of the lesson is using this as a teacher vs pupil argument - the only time the children have permission to argue with you!

KS2 Character Web for A Midsummer Night's Dream

This resource is useful to use with a class as you are reading the story/ text. It clearly lays out how the characters of the 'lovers' are linked throughout the story to make it clear what is happening for any children who have, understandably, become a bit muddled in Shakespeare's comedy. However, I'm always surprised how quickly children can understand what is going on and how characters are linked, compared to adults new to the story - maybe a great tool for adults in school too!

Oh no! The third part of the witches spell got burnt in the fire. In order for Macbeth to find out what might happen in the future you must write the third part of the spell and perform it as a class ... This Presentation is to be used with the lesson plan also available in my shop. It includes visual learning objective and success criteria for children to self assess and track their progress throughout the lesson. It also focuses on reading, writing, SPaG - imperative verbs.

KS2 (Yr 5/6) Macbeth Sonnet Writing Lesson Plan - (Shakespeare Week)

This outstanding lesson follows my Macbeth Rhyming Couplets Witches spell lesson. It builds upon children's knowledge of writing rhyming couplets to enable them to extend their learning to a sonnet structure, using an alternate (a/b/a/b) rhyme pattern with a couplet at the end. This lesson focuses on upper key stage 2 children interest of the battle in Macbeth to learn how to write a sonnet - great to engage boy heavy classes as they describe the battle in the form of poetry. Differentiated for your class, this lesson will enable LAP's to succeed in a group 'big writing format' using the writing frame which you can also download from my TES Shop, your MAP's to consolidate and explore their learning of different rhyme patterns and structures whilst your HAP's can challenge themselves to explore writing in Shakespeare's 'iambic pentameter'. Not only this but the lesson plan links directly to new multiple UKS2 KPI's and objectives for writing and reading, meaning you can tick off lots of assessment for your pupils throughout the lesson.

KS2 (Yr 5/6) Macbeth Battle Poem (Rhyming Patterns)

An original poem written to describe the battle at the end of Macbeth. This is great to use as a text to read as an example when teaching my 'Macbeth Sonnet Writing Lesson Plan' available to download on my TES Shop. The rhyming couplets are coloured at the end of each line to visually match the two rhyming words (couplet). Cut each line into strips and show the children how you can create the alternate rhyme pattern of 'a/b/a/b' with a couplet at the end you have a sonnet structure.

EYFS/KS1 A Midsummer Nights Dream Whoosh! Drama Story Activity - Shakespeare Week

This great resource has been specially written to be used in EYFS (Nursery and Reception) but could also be used in KS1. A great way to introduce Shakespeare to young children the activity aims to actively involve all the children in exploring the story. Can be differentiated to meet the academic and social needs of all children. This version aims to tell the 'fairy' part of the A Midsummer Night's Dream story involving the King and Queen of the fairies, their cheeky fairy servant Puck and of course the hilarious Bottom, whose head is magically changed to a donkey. Lots of fun and laughter to be had with this outstanding resource whilst meeting many of the EYFS assessment objectives.

Oh no! The third part of the witches spell got burnt in the fire. In order for Macbeth to find out what might happen in the future you must write the third part of the spell and perform it as a class ... This is a PDF of the witches spell from William Shakespeare's Macbeth. It has the first 2 parts of the spell on an old fashioned paper background. Use in a creative writing lesson and with the accompanying planning document and PowerPoint presentation. Tip: I have included a blank second page of the old fashioned paper background so you can print double sided. I then burnt the edges of the paper to add to the effect and draw the children into the lesson. Use for children to read aloud the first 2 parts of the spell.

Oh no! The third part of the witches spell got burnt in the fire. In order for Macbeth to find out what might happen in the future you must write the third part of the spell and perform it as a class .. This outstanding lesson teaches the use of rhyming couplets through using Shakespeare's Macbeth. Children are asked to write the next part of the spell which was burnt in the witches fire on the heath. Using drama and performance children are engaged in a story, asked to read and explore a text, learn to write poetry using rhythm and rhyming couplets and explore the use of imperative verbs and other word classes they use in order to meet another SPaG objective. Directly links to new national curriculum assessment objectives for year 5/6 in Writing, Reading, SPaG/ Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling and Speaking and Listening. Making it easy for you to tick off multiple assessments met in just one lesson.

KS1 The Tempest Topic Planning Web - Shakespeare Week

(0)
This is a topic web for KS1 teachers wanting their pupils to be learning about the life of William Shakespeare as well as the story of The Tempest. The Tempest is one of Shakespeare's most magical plays and young children love the characters of Wizard Prospero, Sprite Ariel and Monster Caliban. This is a cross curricular topic web showing you ways teachers can base learning for KS1 children around the story and Shakespeare's life, linked to all areas of the curriculum - even maths! Great for Shakespeare Week, I have seen ideas in here used to create great planning and learning opportunities which have been observed as fantastic lessons and produced some great work from children.

Year 5/6 Shakespearian Relative Clause Activity - SPaG (Shakespeare Week)

Teach two things at once! This great activity is perfect for Shakespeare Week and asks the children to cut out and sort the main clause and match it to the correct relative clause. Teaching this important part of the year 5 and 6 SPaG curriculum, this activity also offers children the chance to learn facts which tell the story of William Shakespeare’s life. Facts range from his early life in Stratford Upon Avon, to his family and his time in London and give children a chronology of information which can later be used in their own writing or research. The SPaG focus includes: Discussion and learning about using commas for clauses. Identifying main and subordinate clauses Relative Pronouns Relative clauses and identifying them after a noun.

Year 5/6 Modal Verbs (Macbeth) - Shakespeare Week

(0)
Teaching modal verbs to year 5 and 6 couldn’t be easier with this great activity. Based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth, this activity uses the characters and story of the bard’s famous Scottish play to teach modal verbs. Children are tasked with filling in the gaps in each sentence with the most appropriate modal verb. They will learn that there can often be many choices - knowing the story will help them choose the most appropriate. A great SPaG activity to use during Shakespeare Week or to link to your class theme or topic. Children will learn: What a modal verb is. How to identify them. The different uses of modal verbs. Applying their understanding of modal verbs to sentences. Embedding their understanding and knowledge of the play.
