This simple resource gets pupils to look at two differing interpretations of William the Conqueror and select evidence that could back up both opinions. Extended tasks gets pupils to consider how background influences and purpose can also impact on interpretations. Pupils have to sift through 5 pieces of evidence (which tend to contradict in places) and work out what really happened to the Princes in the Tower.. There is also an activity to assess pupil understanding of source reliability and utility. The end product is to write a report about 1. What they think happened to the Princes, and 2. How useful and reliable were the 5 selected sources for the enquiry. Enjoy!

A two/three lesson resource looking at they battles of the Civil War. Pupils create a living graph (from the perspective of a Royalist or Parliamentarian) to map out the course of the war from their point of view (using the key found on the battle map). Card sorting activity to help them categorise the factors that made the Royalists weaker and the Parliamentarians stronger as the war progressed. An extended writing (PEEL) activity at the end to allow pupils to show their knowledge and understanding of the key question. Enjoy!

Takeaway History Homework: Generic version for KS3 with QR Codes

This is a generic version of a KS3 Takeaway History Homework menu. I have seen many excellent topic specific examples (e.g. Tudors or Great War etc.), but this can be used as a generic one for all KS3, and will therefore reduce photocopying costs etc. I have also included a QR code sheet for specific rules or worksheets required for specific homework tasks found on the menu. Pupils will need to download a free QR reader onto their phones (if they have compatible ones) from the app store to scan the codes and access these worksheets. The Friars Rating refers to the name of my school, so you can easily adapt the word document and input your own image etc. Enjoy!
