This innovative 2 year course structure approaches the content of the Educas 9-1 GCSE Media Studies specification in a thematic and conceptual way, rather than the method employed by the Eduqas examples or many others made by teachers which structure half-termly teaching and learning by exam component.
Each set text from the Eduqas spec is referred to in detail 5-6 times throughout our course structure, instead of in just one half term like many other approaches. This thematic, conceptual approach and 'little and often' way of teaching ensures students gain transferable skills and a deeper understanding of the theoretical framework that they can apply to all set texts, rather than relying on rote learning of facts and analysis pertaining to each on an individual basis (as has the potential to happen by following the other course structures mentioned above).
Individual lessons, resources and SoW bundles relating to the innovative 987media approach are being added to TES all the time and are available from our shop. 987media resources are clear, consistent and scaffolded to give learners the best opportunity to achieve highly in their GCSE Media Studies course.
This help sheet contains an extensive range of key terminology that might apply to any question students are asked regarding Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting in the ‘British film since 1995’ two film study (Component 1 Section C).
The process of then adding these terms into a PEA structure is useful when revising or practicing set questions as it helps students structure their response and ensures they are using key terminology.

Given the quantity of content to be covered in the new GCSE specifications, students must be learning the strategies, processes and skills to be able to analyse ANY product to Level 7/8/9.
This A3 poster develops learners' ability to analyse any print or moving image media product, whether set or unseen, through using a memorable, repeatable, detailed and specific approach to analysis.
('CIA' refers to the free strategy here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/media-studies-cia-acronym-context-ideology-audience-includes-poster-and-powerpoints-11758095)
N.B. please email info@987media.com if you would like us to send you the editable .psd document
This free resource includes an A3 poster, an editable PowerPoint explainer for the 'CIA' acronym and an auto-rotating version of the slides too. This acronym works very well for structuring deep, detailed and specific analysis in extended responses - given the more explicit focus on these areas in the new specifications.
C: Context
I: Ideology
A: Audience
Now you can 'train' your students to be 'CIA agents' (don't laugh!)
If they think they are finished, ask them, 'have you been enough of a detective? Have you got to the bottom of the representation?'
