Literacy and topic resources for students from Year 3 to Year 6. Resources are either free or value for money as I believe that every £ spent should relieve stress, lessen your workload and advance your students' experiences in school.
This is a Christmas biography writing unit about the life of the fictional character from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge. The activity is a perfect Christmas activity for students in Year 5 or Year 6. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. In the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided.
A crossword puzzle and wordsearch activity is also included in the unit.
NO PREP is needed!

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Two resources perfect for students learning about Richard III by William Shakespeare; a play script written for young performers and a reading comprehension activity.
The play script has been rewritten to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. Richard III tells the story of Richard – a humpbacked member of the royal family who had a deep desire to be king. However, he was fifth in line to the throne with four close family members ahead of him. The play follows the story of his murderous journey to the top, and his eventual demise to Henry at the Battle of Bosworth.
The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. There are 20 speaking roles, and extra characters for up to 25-30 people. Ideal for theater performances or plays, reading activities or guided reading sessions.
The second activity is an Informational text activity with comprehension and grammar questions about William Shakespeare’s popular play, Richard III. The close reading activity focuses on the main storyline of the play and it’s history, and concludes with comprehension and grammar questions. It also contains an extension activity for fast-finishing students. It is aimed at students between the ages of 9-13.
The activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers.

The Grinch has a plan to ruin Christmas for the town, and steals all the presents on Christmas eve. He has a change of heart however when he hears the town enjoying Christmas even though he had stolen all of the presents. His heart grows and he quickly returns the gifts and takes part in all the festivities. There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 28 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too for up to 30 students. The play is around 40-50 minutes long.

After causing Santa to fall from his rooftop, the man and his two young sons have to finish Santa’s deliveries for the night, and then the reindeers fly them to the North Pole. Once there, they are greeted by two elves, who explain how he must become the new Santa. He then slowly starts turning into Santa, which everybody else finds hard to believe!

Christmas Around the World
Santa Claus
Ebenezer Scrooge
These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.
Then, there are two biography writing units about Santa Claus and Ebenezer Scrooge, and one informational writing unit about the traditions of Christmas around the world. The units have been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

A funny play loosely based on the Tim Allen movie - The Santa Clause. ‘The Santa Clause’ tells the story of Scott Calvin, an ordinary man who accidentally causes Santa Claus to fall from his roof on Christmas Eve. Santa disappears but leaves his clothes and a note (The Santa Clause).
Scott and his two young sons have to finish Santa’s deliveries for the night, and then the reindeers fly them to the North Pole. Once there, Scott is greeted by Bernard and Julie, two elves, who explain to Scott about the Santa clause, and how he must become the new Santa.
Scott falls asleep and wakes in his own bed thinking it was all a dream until he starts to slowly turn into Santa. He then has to convince the one he loves that he isn’t crazy and that he is indeed the real ‘Santa Claus’.
There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 20 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too for up to 30 students. The play is around 40-50 minutes long.

Elf tells the story of ‘Buddy the Elf’ who was accidentally taken to the North Pole in Santa’s sack one Christmas Eve. He stayed in the North Pole until adulthood and grew up thinking he was an elf himself. One day he found out he was a human, and decided to go and visit his biological father in New York.
On arrival he wasn’t welcomed by his father until a DNA test reassured him that he was actually his son. The family grew to like Buddy, and he also found a girlfriend – but then everything changed when he fell out with his father one day and decided to leave.
But as he was walking alone he heard a crash in Central Park, when he went to investigate he noticed it was his good friend, Santa. The family caught up with him and realized he had been telling the truth all along, he was in fact an elf from the North Pole. The friends and family all worked together to lift Christmas spirit and thus power Santa’s sleigh to ensure he could finish his deliveries.
There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 21 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too for up to 30 students. The play is around 40-50 minutes long.

This is a play script for Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. It tells the story of a mean, old man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who runs a dark and miserable business. His workers are under-paid and over-worked, especially his assistant Bob Cratchett.
It is Christmas eve and his Bob asks for the day off to spend time with his family, and sick child – Tiny Tim. Scrooge almost refuses but decides to just dock his pay for the day. Then, that evening he gets a visit from his previous business partner – another miserable person called Jacob Marley.
Marley tells him he needs to change his ways or end up with the same fate as him; he tells him how he will be visited by three ghosts that night. The ghosts visit and show Scrooge various things that upset him enough to change his ways.
After the visits of the ghosts Scrooge wakes up on Christmas day a changed man and tries to put right all the wrongs he has caused over the previous decades!
There are song recommendations throughout the script and roles for 19 speaking parts, with extra parts for up to 30 students.
