A funny play loosely based on the Grinch by Dr. Seuss, and the well known movie. The story revolves around the town of Whoville, where all the Whos love Christmas. In fact they love Christmas so much it is all they talk about! However, a mysterious outcast lives to the North of the town; this outcast hates Christmas and anything to do with the festive time of year. This outcast is called the Grinch! The play follows the story of Cindy-Lou and her family as they open up to the Grinch, and try to show him what Christmas is all about. However, the Grinch has his own plans to ruin Christmas for the town, and steals all the presents on Christmas eve. He has a change of heart however when he hears the town enjoying Christmas even though he had stolen all of the presents. His heart grows and he quickly returns the gifts and takes part in all the festivities. There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. The family grew to like Buddy, and he also found a girlfriend – but then everything changed when he fell out with his father one day and decided to leave. But as he was walking alone he heard a crash in Central Park, when he went to investigate he noticed it was his good friend, Santa. The family caught up with him and realised he had been telling the truth all along, he was in fact an elf from the North Pole. The friends and family all worked together to lift Christmas spirit and thus power Santa’s sleigh to ensure he could finish his deliveries. It is Christmas eve and his best worker, Bob Bamboo asks for the day off to spend time with his family, and sick child – Petite Pat. Loops almost refuses but decides to just dock his pay for the day. Then, that evening he gets a visit from the previous headmaster – another miserable person called Mr Frown. Mr Frown tells him he needs to change his ways or end up with the same fate as him; he tells him how he will be visited by three ghosts that night. The ghosts visit and show Loops various things that upset him enough to change his ways. After the visits of the ghosts Loops wakes up on Christmas day a changed man and tries to put right all the wrongs he has caused over the previous decades! If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word. In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word. In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word. In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. A reading comprehension activity, or informational text, with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the slave trade that took African people as slaves across the Atlantic Ocean. The Google Forms activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in Year 5 or Year 6 learning about World History. When downloaded this resource includes a printable version of the reading comprehension and a PDF with a link that allows you to copy the Google Forms document and save it in your Google Drive. The activity can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format. Time allowance to complete: 5-10 minutes - read through the text individually. 30-40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity) Time allowance to assess: A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options. Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. A biography writing unit about the life of Alan Turing, the man responsible for breaking the Nazi Enigma Code in World War 2. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in Year 5 or Year 6. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. A great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to the key events of World War 2. There are 42 posters or cards that include many of the key events from the Second World War. The posters look great in the classroom, and the cards are a brilliant introduction to the war (even better when laminated).
