Booster session for paper 1 of the WJEC exam

A mini test I have created to test my students as we interleave topics. Could be useful as a revision tool also.

This is a lesson that looks at what it is like to live in material deprivation in the UK. The photocopy mentioned in the PPT is page 21 of the Napier Press sociology text book.

Test for the end of the first topic in the education unit

This is a ‘get on with it’ lesson (or could be set as cover) for the introduction to research methods in A Level Sociology. The textbook mentioned is the Collins textbook.

This lesson was created as a ‘lighting fires’ lesson for Y13 IB Social Anthropology, but could be used for taster sessions for the subject/introduction to the course. Please note, the extracts mentioned are from Joy Hendry’s Introduction to Social Anthropology book. However, you can substitute this information on different cultures with extracts from ethnographies you have/information online.

Lesson looks at how schools socialise children using sanctions etc by analysing a documentary, recalls key terms, looks at the functions of school, how schools socialise us into gender and an exam question. Home Learning - photocopy information from a relevant text book you have for this info.

Included in this resource are three revision card checklists for Year 1 of the AQA A Level course including: Education (compulsory unit), Research Methods (compulsory unit) and Families and Households (optional unit). The checklists list the topics they need to cover, how many revision cards they have for each topic, how well they know the topic and a teacher sign off column.

This lesson looks at revising and practicing writing the a, b and c questions of the WJEC Sociology paper. This PPT refers to a revision guide that can be purchased from my store. The tips sheet is included in this lesson. You do not need the revision guide - you can use your own, their notes or the text books.

This is a lesson that focuses on exam skills. The lesson starts with a look at the impact of the Conservative win on social policy affecting families. Students then look at introductions and then complete a 20 mark question they have been building up to. Includes: WALTs WILFs Formative Assessment Exam question

This is an end of topic test for the Domestic Division of Labour section of the Families and Households unit. Includes 3 questions: 2 x 10 mark questions and a 20 mark question that mirrors the actual exam. All items have been created by me and you will not find them elsewhere online.

Lesson looks at key terms, ways in which sport socialises children including an exam question.

This lesson introduces students to In Search of Respect. Context of the ethnography is completed, what is respect, migration, a piece of writing based on P1 Q3 and how El Barrio has changed over time. You will need a copy of In Search of Respect by Philippe Bourgois.

This lesson looks at functionalist views on social policy including critiques. This would suit a single-period lesson. Includes: WALTs WILFs Formative assessment Exam question (this is the first in a series of lessons leading up to an exam question) The book referenced is the 1st year Napier Press book.

This is a mock paper that I have created for my Y11s as they have already completed the one (grrrrr) sample assessment available on the AQA website. It mirrors the sample paper throughout, but with different questions (obviously). 3 of the 4 items included in the paper are from the AQA text book so I cannot include the images of them for copyright reasons. I have, however, told you where they need to be inserted and where exactly to find them. Now includes model answers for each question.

One hour lesson on social exclusion. Looks at: constructing own definition of social exclusion, who may be socially excluded (including structuring notes in diagram form) and an extended piece of writing opportunity.

This lesson looks at the nature vs nurture debate and breaks it down into chunks for the students. Looks at key terms, scientific evidence for nature theory, historical, anthropological and feral child evidence. UPDATE 12.10.16 - Follow up essay lesson uploaded.
