Resources to support students with the planning and writing of an expose on Romeo and Juliet’s secret love for a gossip column. Includes model responses to analyse along with structured planning grids focused on punctuation and sentence skills.

Up to 7 lessons worth of material to encourage practical musicianship. Differentiated resources for different instruments in order to create an ensemble performance of Don’t Stop Believing. There are at least 3 tasks for each instrument and the music is also annotated with note names or without. There is also a Sibelius 6 file which can be adapted to suit other instrumentation. The wow word sheet has 3 levels of differentiation and introduces students to musical language by describing the musical features of the song - this works well as a starter and provides a suitable worksheet for students to revise from for an end of unit listening test.

Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Scene 3: A worksheet to help explore Romeo’s desperation in Act 3 Scene 3.

5 unseen war poems. This double sided A3 worksheet is ideal to set as cover work. It includes 5 poems differentiated by difficulty and instructions for 4 lessons. I created this when I knew I was going to be off for a week.

Stave 4 differentiated comprehension questions on A Christmas Carol. Includes a differentiated starter which asks students to summarise the Stave using 7 images. Aimed at mid - ability GCSE with target grades 4-6.

A famous extract from Chapter 2 of Oliver Twist with an exam style question and a writing frame to help students explore the extract. Ideal to use with Key Stage 3 to prepare them for Key Stage 4.

A revision grid contains notes for all 15 poems on the themes of power, conflict as well as notes structure and context. The activity asks students to engage with the revision grid in order to look for discriminating comparisons. After finding a pair, students write comparative sentences. Another way of using this revision sheet is to colour code the poems that go well together.

Stealing by Carol Ann Duffy activities

A lesson that walks students through how to answer an exam question on attitudes to the supernatural in Macbeth. The featured extract comes from Act 1 Scene 3. The lesson includes annotations of the extract, a grade 9 sample answer and annotations for quotations to use from outside the extract to finish the response. Also contains an alternative lesson which uses Act 1 Scene 1 as the starting extract. This lesson is actually better.

How to structure AQA English Literature Paper 2 with suggested timings for each question.

PowerPoint lesson with differentiated worksheets to help students explore the importance of the Friar. Students read the key quotations and decide how far they think Shakespeare presents The Friar as a wise man. Includes GCSE exam style question adapted for AQA (34 mark question) and EDUQAS (25 mark question)

Questions to encourage students to annotate Act 1 Scene 4 from Romeo and Juliet. Also an activity analysing the 3 key moments from Act 1 Scene 4: 1. Romeo and Mercutio’s witty exchanges 2. Queen Mab speech 3. Romeo’s premonition of death

A list of wider listening pieces for each area of study for Edexcel GCSE Music (15 for all with you tube links except Fusions where there are 10). A focus sheet where students must research the context and listen to key musical elements in the piece of music. A differentiated success criteria is also attached - can be used for up to 50 pieces of homework across the 2 years.

Using this marking code will speed up your marking without compromising the quality and specificity of your marking because it transfers the time-consuming job of writing the targets out for each student from you to the students. Your marking will look something like this: WWW 1. 3. 7. EBI 4. 10. 15. Read the work and select 3 ways they have met the generic success criteria (WWW) and 3 ways they can improve further (EBI). The students have to then write out the target before trying to meet it. The 20 criteria start with the basics of using full stops and capital letters before moving on to much harder targets such as using a full range of punctuation. This should work with any creative writing task. Students can also use it a self-assessment tool. I have also included a differentiated and more visually stimulating version which just has 8 targets.
