This is a fun Science assembly for year 1 in the autumn term. It has a catchy song (with you tube link). It covers, what are the layers of the earth, types of soil, the rock cycle, properties and examples of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rock, why Mary Anning is important to science and how fossils are formed. There are so many opportunities for fun acting and miming in this script too depending on the ability of your class. Hopefully it saves you some time for planning your own assemblies

I have always made it a point in my teaching to include famous figures from BAME/BIPOC backgrounds in all of my teaching practise. Here is a collection of 10 profiles of famous geographers and explorers who have had a profound impact on our world. I chose one of these to be displayed on my geography display board every half term and often refer to them in our pshe sessions. I use these profiles to help the children understand their scientific contributions and its impact to our society. I also use these profiles to interest and engage the children in our science or english lessons e.g. writing a fact file about these individuals. I hope this makes life easier in your own classroom.
