Trivial Pursuits Francophone Challenge
Francophone research task.
Students explore a map marked with several pins showing french speaking countries - using http://www.airpano.com/360photo_list.php they can explore the destination before choosing a country to focus on.
Students then select a ‘segment’ eg green, green = Geography category, they must then research their chosen destination to find out the necessary information eg. name at least 2 geographical features of this country. “collect”/research all segments.
Designed to be used in school currently, with mixed ages/abilities and some non linguists therefore resource is in English.
Resource could be adapted to be more competitive - setting a time limit or working in teams.

Les Vacances de Petit Nicolas
This is a film project created for Y8 at the end of the year, based around revision/consolidation of the past tense and the topic of holidays.
Students watched the film in French. Then worked through the activities in the booklet.
Present tense - vocabulary building - destinations, accomodation, who you travel with etc
Past tense - following watching the film - where did he go? with who? re-ordering events from the film
Literacy - section on the writer and the themes of the original books in French

"Un Monstre à Paris" Film Project
Resources to accompany watching the film - with Year 7 classes, revising and reusing language covered throughout the year.
Includes pre-film activity - types of film, colours.
Post-film activities include: character work - names, descriptions, relationships between characters, activities based around the ‘monster’ - describing, creating own, song, activities about la Seine, re-ordering the story and monuments in Paris.

Van Gogh Project
Project/Mini scheme of work to incorporate: er verbs/my home/my room/prepositions. The theme of Van Gogh links the topics together, using his painting 'la maison jaune' and 'ma chambre'. There is a prezi linked to the project- to introduce rooms in the house. Students also produced their own drawings in the 'style of' Van Gogh/Impressionism. Le sapin de Noël
Using resources from ‘1jour1actu’ &‘franceinfojunior’ - this resource includes speaking activity giving opinions/preferences on styles of christmas tree. Reading activity on the journey/life of a christmas tree. Writing/Speaking/Dictionary activity to create and describe students’ own christmas tree design. Listening activity linked to a France 5 documentary.
Can be adapted for a wide range of classes, depending on ability.
Le Grinch
Using an article from ‘1jour1actu’ about the new Grinch film - reading comprehension exercise. Followed by an exercise where students are asked to create an invitation that would persuade the grumpy Grinch to come down from his mountain.

Using the current craze of Pokémon Go. I used this for end of term activity. Follow up activities could include: designing and labelling own Pokémon character, describing it to a partner.

Starter/Quiz activity - students must decide if each job exists or not (eg. Ice cream developper, sun cream applicator). Follow up activities could include creating their own ‘unique’/dream jobs, describing (writing or speaking) which job they would like to do and why…if linked to giving justifications for choosing or applying for a job or necessary qualities…the jobs could be ‘auctioned’ to the best candidate ie. the person who can best explain why they want that job.
