How to write a Winter Poem!
This activity booklet supports writing a winter poem in just SIX steps. Images are included as well as a word bank to support children who may need it.
All steps are modelled and students follow the format to produce their own poem. Could be used in class, as homework, or for home schooling. Suitable for KS2+.

An Introduction to Jane Austen
This booklet includes short extracts from Austen’s six major novels (Pride and Prejudice;Sense and Sensibility; Emma; Northanger Abbey; Mansfield Park; and Persuasion). Each extract is followed by discussion questions linked to the extract. The last page requires students to compare and contrast the extracts. Discussion focuses on narrative voice, settings, protagonists, writing style, and vocabulary.
Intended to be used as an introduction to Austen and writers of the long nineteenth century.

Halloween Writing Activities

An Unexpected Guest - Reading questions and activities
Based on the 2021 Christmas John Lewis Advert, this includes a range of questions to be used before, during and after watching. Questions are linked to recall, inference, prediction, summary, explanation. Also includes ideas for further activities. Could be used in whole class Guided Reading or as a stand alone Christmas English lesson. Opportunities for speaking and listening.
Funny Vocab Match-Up
Listed in a table that can be easily edited, are a range of unusual and amusing words that are no longer common in todays discourse. Each word is currently matched with a definition but through a quick guillotine could be easily mixed up to provide a challenge. Once matched, they could be used to stimulate a speaking and listening activity.
Halloween Guided Reading Tasks
Five Halloween themed activities based around images, suitable for guided reading. Encourages children to use reading skills: infer, predict, summarise, vocab. Uses images from film and books. Powerpoint can be edited for use with whole class or printed out as independent activity sheets.
Guy Fawkes Reading Activity
A fictional last confession from Guy Fawkes, the night before his execution. (This could be used as a model). Students have a skim and scan activity, encouraging a quick response to locating words within the text. This is followed by a series of vocabulary and language questions, similar to SATs style reading questions.
The Secret Garden - Skim & Scan Activity
Skim and Scan activity to aid speedy retrieval skills using an extract from The Secret Garden Children have to locate a series of words within the text, similar to a wordsearch. My class enjoy using an IWB timer to see how quickly then can locate all the words. Additional vocabulary extensions activity included.
Fictional Worlds: Reading Comprehension
A KS2 Greater Depth reading comprehension based on an extract from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Questions are SAT style and an answer guide is included.
