A set of 22 revision dominoes for the new AQA GCSE unit: Restoration England, 1660-1685. This is really useful as a starter activity as students move closer to the exam (or at the end of the unit) - hand one domino to each pupil and have them read out the date, the pupil with the corresponding event reads this out and then reads out their date. This should start a chain reaction around the room. My class always want to beat their time! There are perhaps more events and dates that can be added; however, this is a useful starting point.

Summary handout detailing the causes, events and results of the Third Dutch War. This is one of the tricky topics within the new AQA GCSE unit, Restoration England: 1660-1685. This one-sided handout will benefit those students who find the text book difficult to understand and it would be a great resource to have handy for revision.

This resource was designed for the new AQA History GCSE unit: Restoration England, 1660-1685; however, it would be suitable for any topic on classical/baroque architecture. All images have been sourced from WikiCommons and are Open Access files. Students can be given the set of images at the beginning of the lesson and must separate them into two piles without any prior knowledge (one interior and three exterior per style). The teacher can then go through the PowerPoint explaining the differences between the two styles, before the students rearrange their images based on this new knowledge. They can then stick these on to two pages in their books with the comparison table, labelling the key features on the photos.

The display consists of several heads of historical figures in a line across the board; however, each head is positioned at the actual height they would have stood (5ft 5in, 6ft 2in etc.) Students love walking past and measuring themselves against Hitler, Queen Victoria etc. Included are several Historical heads, the names/heights, titles and a key for the side of the display. All that is needed are coloured strips that run vertically from the bottom of the display to the relevant head (see link). I used the coloured border rolls for these! Enjoy!

A full lesson's work on the Industrial Revolution. This can be used as an introductory lesson on a much larger unit of work, or could be a stand-alone lesson. Included is a PowerPoint presentation that can be worked through. The timeline cards can be cut out and laminated. Then, give out to students and have them move around the room to find other pupils with corresponding cards (there should be three for each category). Then have them put themselves in order: 1750-->1900. There is also another timeline task where students can colour-code the dates based on each theme. They then need to identify the most important category and any turning points.

A card sort activity showing the decline of relations between Charles II and Parliament during his reign. Each card gives an example of something that caused tension between the two sides. Students can sort the cards using the instructions on page 2 of the resource. They can then use the cards to answer an exam style question. This is designed for the new AQA GCSE topic: Restoration England, 1660-1685; however, it could be adapted for any KS4/KS5 topic on Charles II.

Various resources to aid A Level (or GCSE) teaching of the East Anglian Witchcraze. This was designed for the OCR Unit 3 topic: Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries. Students may need to use either the Hodder or Pearson text books to complete one of the worksheets on the causes of the hunts; however, everything else can be used independently. Included are: information sheets on the hunts a sorting activity focusing on the causes of the hunts revision sheets extracts from Hopkins' book where he responds to John Gaule's criticisms a biography worksheet for students to complete using their own research

A useful lesson starter and class task on the D Day landings. Students are given a selection of images and they must first try to work out what is going on in each (all images from WikiCommons). Then, after a class discussion, they need to try to put them in the correct order. Once finished, they can try to match them up and rearrange the events on the PowerPoint presentation, before sticking/writing into their books. A map of the D Day landings has also been included, to be used alongside the questions from the PowerPoint. This is a useful introduction to D Day and can be used as a springboard for further tasks.

A useful card sort and revision sheet for pandemics through time, to be used in conjunction with the 'medicine through time' style unit from any exam board (this was designed for AQA). Give students the cut out cards and ask them to put them together in groups for each pandemic (categories include: name, date, cause, treatment etc.) The content is fairly basic at this stage, as the next task is to transfer this information (in note form) on to the blank table, along with further detail from class work/textbooks. This can then be used for revision, particularly for Q3 of the AQA paper which asks students to make comparisons across the period (e.g. 'Compare the cholera epidemic with the Black Death, in what ways are they similar?)

A full week/two weeks of resources for teaching the War at Sea and the Battle of Jutland during the First World War to Year 9 (could also be adapted for a more-able Year 8 class, if pursuing a three-year GCSE course). KS3 assessment material on Cromwell, including a source sheet, instructions for pupils and a marking grid. Also included is an analysis/evaluation template that is useful to get the class started on the assessment. I usually go through one of the sources in class and fill in the grid in the lesson, then have the group turn it into an essay along with the rest of the sources. Can be differentiated by reducing the number of sources to 3 or by adding more descriptions to the material. Alternatively, for high achievers you could encourage them to find similarities/differences between the sources and add these in to the essay.

Enclosed in this resource pack are 5 ‘Historical Emoji’ display sheets and 5 corresponding descriptions. Every fortnight (or monthly), simply put up a new ‘Historical Emoji’ on a display board and have your students try to guess the event using the guess sheets. I staple a plastic wallet with the blank guess sheets and an envelope (or similar) to the display board for the completed forms. After the deadline (usually a week), simply put up the corresponding description sheet to reveal the answer. I also put up a note identifying the winners, who each receive a merit. This then stays up for a week before I move on to the next ‘Historical Emoji’. It’s a great way to engage the pupils in some of the key events in history and if the task is a little easy, I award the merits to the pupils who offer the most detail, e.g. dates, names, countries etc. The obvious issue with this display is the fact that it needs to be updated; however, you could change this to a monthly rotation if that is easier. I find that if all the sheets are printed off beforehand, it actually only takes 5-10minutes to switch the display around. By changing it so frequently the board certainly becomes a destination in the school and I often have pupils asking me about the display. N.B. Some of the emojis are a little tongue-in-cheek and I do not mean to be insensitive to past tragedies. These are used purely as historical events. Various resources to support the teaching of the Gunpowder Plot, including assessment materials on whether the plot was a conspiracy. It usually takes a whole lesson to go through the evidence for both sides of the argument and I get the pupils to write an essay for prep arguing for which side they believe most. This exercise can be differentiated by having less able students outline the main events of the Gunpowder Plot.
