A flexible Literacy lesson that uses the topic of fire to generate ideas of a poem. This is an excellent lesson for the end of a poetry topic. Children are encouraged to use their senses as well as simile and onomatopoeia to create a poem all about fire. this would fit in very well with Bonfire Night, the Stone Age, Fire of London or Halloween. Children can write their poetic phrases onto flames and build up their poem like a real bonfire. This makes for a wonderful class display. Alternatively, there is writing paper for the children to use instead.

This lesson explores the possible colour combinations that can be created by joining different coloured tufts to the trunks of the Truffula trees. Children are extended to explain how they solved the problem and consider what they would need to do in a new colour is added.

Included is a powerpoint with 39 slides to show the children and separate powerpoint with 39 slides for the teacher to read out. There is also a recording sheet. Additionally, there is a spelling checklist of a shortened version of the common exception words, contractions and some suffix words.
