⇒ Game of Scoot: There are many variations to the game. Here’s one: Lay cards around the classroom. When the teacher calls ‘scoot’ students pick up a card and write their response on the provided Recording Sheet. Students can only move when ‘scoot’ is called out. If the student does not finish solving the problem on a card, he/she can continue to spend more time on it, but must wait till the teacher calls out ‘scoot’. Group experiment to toss a coin a given number of times and record the total heads, total tails, total outcomes, and relative frequencies of heads and tails (fractions and decimals) for each group. This is to prove the law of large numbers that indicate that as the number of trials increase, the relative frequencies tend to get closer to the expected value (0.5) of tossing a coin.

Brief Overview of Nature of Work: The Introduction, Body and Conclusion
THE INTRODUCTION:
Students will read the sample text on fast food (coloured posters) and note the parts of the Introduction. They will also read the sample texts for the five different ways to begin an persuasive essay: a strong statement, a scene, a rhetorical question, a definition, and a quotation.
Students will colour-code the parts of the introduction in the five sample texts (interactive notebook templates). Students will then practise writing the five ways of beginning an introduction. They will use a graphic organiser to plan their thesis (interactive notebook templates).
THE BODY:
Students will read the sample text on fast food (coloured posters) and note the parts of the body: a topic sentence encompassing the reason, supporting details and a concluding sentence. SUGGESTED USE Use the colour task cards in centres. The blackline task cards may be glued in students’ math journals for reference. There are 4 cards on a page. You also have the option to print all 20/24 cards on a single page that students can attach to their journals for reference. You can also play Scoot with the task cards or simply leave them around the classroom for students to move quietly and solve.

How to assemble: You can choose either of the three options.
