Back to School Question Cards

(0)
Back to School Reflective Question Cards Included in this resource: 24 Question Cards (8 cards per side of A4 = 3 page document) The questions support and scaffold a conversation with a child (or between peers) around the upcoming school year. Questions link to achievements, relationships with peers and staff, trips, clubs, thoughts on lessons / subjects and feelings around the school year starting. These cards can be used 1:1 or in a group setting to guide conversation and positive reflection. I have found them to be a nice way to start off the school year and I have mostly used them in the first couple of weeks. The questions are quite broad so link to a wide age range. There may be American English spellings in this resource. Thanks!

Plant and Animal Cell Revision Game

(0)
Plant and Animal Cells Spin Wheel Revision Resource This resource encompasses 12 key questions from the cell unit unit. These are questions selected as they occur regularly and are classically challenging for students to answer. The resource is based around plant and animal cell components, component functions and locations in the cell. Example questions from the spin wheel resource: Which cell components are specific to only plant cells? Which cell component is linked to respiration? What is the role of the nucleus? Also included in the resource is a full answer set. There is also an instructions sheet, with helpful guidance on using the spin wheel as a revision tool, student answer sheet and a ‘tick and repeat sheet’. This encourages the student to revisit the spin wheel to revise the key questions until they reach the ‘know it’ level. Very simple preparation: Print the sheets (set up in A4 PDF). The students can then cut out the pin wheel for themselves and push a pen or pencil through the middle for the wheel to spin around. I found clamp stands to be a useful alternative.

Emotions and Feelings Learning Mentor Resources

(0)
Emotional Wellbeing and Reflection Activity As a learning mentor, I’ve struggled to find age appropriate wellbeing resources to use with my middle and high school students - most seem to be tailored to little ones. This resource focusses on how young people feel about common school and home issues. Included in this resource: 16 situation cards - cards describing specific situations at home or school e.g. friendships, bullying, learning, home life etc. A positive emotion fan set (including seven feelings fans) A negative emotion fan set (including seven feelings fans) How to use: Students pick a situation card at random and read it e.g. Situation Card 15: You see another student being bullied at break time. You are in two minds what to do, as you were previously quite close with the group doing the bullying Students then pick whether they feel positive or negative about this. They pick up either the positive fan set or the negative fan set Students then choose one or two specific emotion fans from the set e.g. Disappointed and Vulnerable You can then talk to your students why they would feel this way and explore these feelings deeper The resource comes with full instructions. There will be some American spellings in this resource. I find this resource to be interactive, conversation prompting and accessible to middle and high school learners.
