This is a set of comprehensions about Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne. It covers 70 years of British history and the history of the Queen’s reign. There is a section on each decade. The comprehensions are aimed at Year 2 (ages 6-7). There are three differentiated booklets. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘who’ and ‘when’ questions and some multiple choice tick questions. The activity contains a title page with useful words followed by four pages with short written extracts to read and 3-4 questions per page. The higher ability booklet has 14 questions and the middle and lower ability booklets each have 12 questions. Answers are also included. All of the PDF booklets are in the zip file. There is a colour and black & white version for each level. Perfect for a topic on Queen Elizabeth II or the history of modern Britain. (These comprehensions were updated on 9th September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.) 6th February 2018 marked 100 years since women over 30 were given the vote in Britain. This presentation was created to celebrate this historic anniversary but can be used at any time to teach children about the suffragettes and the Bill in Parliament that allowed women to vote. This resource is a 22 slide detailed, editable PowerPoint, perfect for teaching your children about this important topic. The slideshow covers women's rights prior to suffrage, the actions of the suffragettes, the arguments on either side, a detailed look at five particular suffragists, women during the war, the Act in Parliament, women in the 20th century and suffrage around the world. It concludes with some questions for further conversation. It is suitable for using with KS2 children and could be used for an assembly, a filler or a lesson introduction. I hope you enjoy teaching about this historic event! (Please note: This PowerPoint is adapted from the secondary school version to make it appropriate for primary aged children.)

This is a 5 lesson Literacy unit all about Edith Cavell. The plan is aimed at year 2 and gives details of the year 2 curriculum objectives covered. The children develop reading comprehension, writing, editing and SPaG skills during the unit. All five lessons include a SPaG starter which is always linked to Edith Cavell. The main activity in lesson 1 is a non-fiction reading comprehension, which helps children to learn about Edith. It is laid out in a SATs style format, containing similar questions to a SATs paper and is differentiated 3 ways. The main activity in lesson 2 is a newspaper comprehension, written from the point of view of a British reporter the day after Edith was shot. Again it contains SATs style questions and is differentiated 3 ways. Please note the 'Preview Page' shows the newspaper report with sections blacked out. Lesson 3 allows children to gather ideas through drama and written activities. Lessons 4 and 5 allow children to write and edit their own newspapers about Edith Cavell. This resource is a comprehension booklet aimed at Lower Key Stage 2 (7-9 yrs). The booklet tells the story of The Gunpowder Plot which is the story behind the Bonfire Night celebrations. There are three differentiated booklets. The higher booklet has two pages of information for the children to read before they complete 3 pages of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘when,’ ‘which,’ ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions. There are also true or false, multiple choice questions and some that require more detailed answers. There are 14 questions in total. The middle and lower ability booklets have the information split into four separate pages with questions on each page.
