I taught in a range of schools for many years before moving into FE, where I found creative and imaginative approaches just as rewarding with adults. Most of my resources are concerned with giving control to the learner, through a range of methods. Some are great for just giving them experience of examination questions, and the chance to discuss these with other learners. I now concentrate on spreading the range of creations from UK KS1 to KS4, and across the Common Standards.

I teach 16 plus learners in a thirty or so week programme for GCSE - some retake and some new learners. What I have done here is put the Edexcel Linear A new scheme into the weekly slots, and devided all the criteria/spec statements into Aims and Objectives. I wouldn't expect anyone to follow the same order, or keep my jokes, but please copy slides as you want. \nInspectors love to see the aims pasted up, so I use PowerPoint.

Geometry statements

I took guidance on what examiners expect in terms of 'why' in geometry questions, added some images, and produced a simple slideshow to loop whilst the learners are revising questions themselves.

Algebra card matching

(2)
Algebraic statements in symbols, with with corresponding word descriptions, and representations as areas in the plane, along with function tables. Match up any sets you like - words and symbols seem to go down well, along with the pictorial representation.

Very simple algebra equations from photographs of onions. I took lots of photos of fruit and veg and now I'm wondering how to incorporate them into my learning experiences. This is the first attempt - find the value of the letter to solve the simple equation.\nTwo sets, which can be shown on a screen or printed as slide handouts.

On what date was I born?

A simple little activity that can get the learners thinking - no more than a warm up. Ask the question, and show the second screen. You don't need to face the screen, just know the position of the cards. A learner tells you which cards (first, second, third etc.) contain the date of their birth. The rest is the puzzle!

Standard style lesson plans put into PowerPoint for easy showing in the classroom, printing for handouts etc. Elsewhere on TES I have created twenty seven lessons in all, covering the rest of algebra, geometry and measure for higher tier. There is also another set covering number, ratio, proportion, and statistics and probability, and also three free samples of number. All you have to do is add your own particular circumstances, resources etc. After getting a 'one star' rating for the paid set of thirty, I thought of this - try these three for free, and if you like them, you can buy the rest of the set, which cost £1. Fifteen word searches in a variety of forms - doc, pdf, and as a slideshow in PowerPoint. I've included a guide on how I intend to use them, but they are easily adaptable for a variety of purposes. Solutions included but I don&'t think the point is to find all of them.
