KS4 AQA History lesson covering the two Moroccan Crises before the First World War (1905-06 & 1911) Students will look at information supported by sources about German ambition in North Africa and the response of the Triple Entente powers. The lesson ends with numerous questions on the topic and a GCSE style question for the students to complete.

The lesson catalogues the signing of treaties from 1879 to 1907 to explain the formation of the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The aggression of Germany and it’s Kaiser is also looked at before source analysis and exam question practice.

A KS4 AQA History lesson on the problems in the Balkans before the First World War. Students will look at the crumbling Ottoman Empire, the Balkan Crisis and resulting Balkan Wars. This lesson will take 2 hours to complete with sources to analyze and exam questions to answer.

A KS3 History lesson looking at poverty in Britain at the start of the 20th century. Students are exposed to the disparity of lifestyles within the country and the problems faced by the poorest of people. Students then see some liberal reforms (children’s charter, free school meals, etc.) and assess the impact of these on the people of Britain. Questions and sources are presented to students throughout the lesson.

A KS3 History lesson looking at the contributions of soliders from across the British Empire. Students will investigate the motivation for joining the war effort and the problems faced for these soldiers. Slide 6 has sensitive language, please review before teaching.

A KS3 History lesson focused on the interwar period. Students will look at unemployment due to the Great Depression; a number of sources/opinions from the time will be shared with the students in order for them to understand the far-reaching impact of the economic downturn. The Jarrow March, the car industry and far-right politics are also looked at throughout the lesson. I would aim to teach this lesson across two hours, allowing students to answer the questions carefully. The resource is self-contained so can be set as online independent work.

2 KS3 History lessons that centres on the moon landings. Students will focus on source analysis in both lessons; firstly addressing sources that discredit the landings and claim they are a hoax. The second uses sources that aim to prove that the landings were real. A report type task is present at the end of the second lesson where students are asked to present a balanced response before a opinionated conclusion on what the student thinks is true and why.

A KS3 History lesson centred on the life of Adolf Hitler; from childhood to becoming the leader of Germany. Students will be given a variety of sources that show the character and life experiences of Adolf Hitler: childhood and school life in Austria, being a young man with artistic ambition in Vienna, soldier in the first world war and finally political activist and prisoner before his rise to fame. There are two checkpoints within the lesson where students’ comprehension is checked.

A KS3 History lesson on the Cold War. Students will look at what the situation was after the Second World War, how the Soviet Union and USA differed in terms of ideology, past and future vision. Mutually assured destruction and nuclear armament is covered in the lesson. There are a number of checkpoints in the lesson where students understanding is challenged.

2 KS3 lessons on the topic of Terrorism. Students will begin by learning the definition of terrorism before delving into how the USA have suffered terrorist attacks and why this might be. The second part of the lesson looks at the different tactics used by terrorists and how we might combat and defeat terrorism. There are checkpoints for students to answer comprehension questions within the lesson.

2 KS3 History lessons focusing on independence movements in Africa during the 20th century. In the first lesson, students will look at colonial Africa and independent Africa before assessing treatment of Africans by their European rulers. The second lesson will see a number of named independence movements mentioned and possible problems facing newly independent countries in regard to control and power. There are two checkpoints to challenge students’ comprehension skills.

2 KS3 History lessons centred on Indian Independence. This powerpoint is split into two sections. In the first, students will look at British colonial rule of India and how India, its people and resources, are used by the British. The second section looks at the quest for freedom within India, personified by the words and actions of Gandhi, as well as partition of India into India and Pakistan. There are two checkpoints for students to answer comprehension questions.

A KS4 GCSE lesson on the end of the First World War and Germany’s defeat. Factors such as the British naval blockade, failure of Ludendorff’s Spring Offensive and USA involvement are mentioned, among others. This lesson has a number of interpretations to support the content within. Students will be tasked with a series of questions relating to the content before being given a practice GCSE-style question to answer.

A KS4 GCSE lesson on the conclusion of the First World War. Students will investigate the abdication of the Kaiser, the argreement of an armistice and the Treaty of Versailles. The slides contain GCSE questions, general questions and sources referring to the key parts of the lesson.

Four KS3 lessons based on the Roman Empire. Lesson 1 covers the origins of Roman, with the myth of Romulus and Remus, as well as a task centred on Roman expansion and the Ancient Greeks. Lesson 2 covers how Rome was governed; with emphasis placed on the senate and the role of senators in Roman society. Lesson 3 focuses on Roman health, with students set in teams to competing to find the answers to questions using a variety of resources. Lesson 4 is a basic lesson covering the life of the famous Roman consul Julius Caesar.

History lesson on the rise of the Roman Empire. Students will look at the geography of Rome in relation to the previous empires covered: Egyptian and Greek. Students will be given the story of Rome’s foundation with the myth of Romulus and Remus. Students will then be asked to complete a missing words task on the Roman Empire. Students will be then asked to write a letter drawing on their previous knowledge of the Greek Empire. They are to summarise the good aspects of Greek life to the Romans to ensure that their culture is not destroyed and rebellion does not occur.
