5 History lessons designed for KS3/KS4 students. Includes detailed lessons on the rise of the Greek Empire, the governance of Greece, Greek health, Greek mythology/religion with templates for a detailed written task and an Greek key individuals lesson. Information hunts, group work, group role play and debates are all incorporated into the lessons.

History lesson on 5 key individuals. Students begin by analysing 5 individuals through history; looking at their roles, similarities and differences. Students are then separated into 5 mixed ability teams and instructions are read out about the task ahead. Each team is to research a chosen individual, complete a worksheet (per student) and then organise themselves ready to present their key individual to the rest of the class in the form of a drama performance.

History lesson on the decline of the Egyptian Empire and the rise of the Greek Empire. Students will discover the reason for the decline in Egyptian influence, look at the geography of both Egypt and Greece and discuss how this close link could impact on each Empire. Students will then investigate Greece’s most famous leader, Alexander the Great. Students will complete a comprehension task on the life of Alexander the Great.

History lesson on 5 key individuals. Students begin by analysing 6 individuals through history; looking at their roles, similarities and differences. Students are then separated into 5 mixed ability teams and instructions are read out about the task ahead. Each team is to research a chosen Pharaoh, complete a worksheet (per student) and then organise themselves ready to present their key individual to the rest of the class.

History lesson on Ancient Egyptian health. Students will begin by discussing health in the UK and the importance of the NHS. Students will then be presented with an ‘information explosion’ with limited instructions and lots of information on each table. Students will then complete a ‘progress’ and ‘held back’. Students are to then complete an answer to the question ‘How effective was Egyptian medicine?’ using the differentiated help sheets.

Lesson on Egyptian society. Students start by discussing democracy in the UK. Students are then assigned a role within the Egyptian social pyramid (11 roles in all) and they are to go around the classroom and interact with other students as their character. Students will then complete the worksheet highlighting the responsibilities of each role, the benefits and the drawbacks. Students will then debate how Ancient Egypt might have been if democracy had been introduced but will argue from the point of their character.

History lesson on Ancient Egypt and the importance of the Nile. Information search task with differentiated worksheet included on the slideshow. Poem task to set for plenary or homework.

A KS3 History lesson centred on the ending of the First World War and how Britain adapted to life after the war. Students will look at the improvements made post-war as well as some of the challenges faced by the recovering nation. Sources and questions present throughout the lesson.

A KS4 AQA History lesson based on the events of the Battle of Verdun. Students will work independently to complete the accompanying worksheet using the information sheets provided. Students will then use the NOP technique (Nature, Origin, Purpose) to pick apart of the source provided.

A KS4 AQA History lesson on the failure of the war plans at the start of the First World War. Students will look at the early stages of the Schlieffen Plan which leads to the Battle of the Marne. Students will look at Belgian resistance here with a source analysis task. Students will then move on towards the origins of trench warfare with the race to the sea before looking at Russian involvement on Germany’s Eastern Front. This lesson ends with a source analysis question based on early Russian dominance against the Austro-Hungarians.

A KS4 AQA History Lesson centred on how the technology in the skies were used during the First World War. Students investigate how planes were first used, the different types of planes used by both sides as well as the aces that flew them. Students will have questions to answer and sources to analyze.

A KS4 AQA History lesson based on the naval interactions during the First World War. Students will investigate the Battle of Jutland, the sinking of the Lusitania, submarine warfare and the naval blockade of Germany. Students have some GCSE question, general questions and sources to analyze.

A KS4 AQA History lesson centred on Russia leaving the war in 1917. Students will investigate life during the First World War under the Tsar’s leadership and how the war eroded confidence in him. The two revolutions are covered as well as the abdication of the Tsar. Russia’s signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk draws an end to it’s involvement in the First World War. Students will be exposed to sources and exam style questions.

A KS3 History lesson on the ‘final solution’ and steps taken towards the mass execution of Europe’s Jews. Students will look at persecution, ghettos and concentration camps using sources to guide them. Lots of information and question involved which should see this lesson take 2 hours to complete. There are some sensitive images used so please review before teaching.

A KS3 History lesson based around complexities of cowardice during the First World War. Students focus on a specific case study, that of Private Harry Farr, and they are to assess the evidence for and against his cowardice. This usually stretches over two lessons; the first looking at the prosecution’s side of the story and the second looking at Farr (the defendant’s) side of the story. Students complete tasks at the end of the lessons to conclude if the outcome was justified.

A KS4 AQA History lesson covering the land and naval arms race between the countries within Europe before the First World War. The lesson is an independent study with information sheets accompanying a worksheet that needs to be printed and handed to the students to complete.

A KS4 AQA History lesson centred on the events in July 1914 which led to the outbreak of the First World War. Students will look at events in the Balkans following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and how countries in Europe interacted with one another. Students then have a source analysis task before attempting a GCSE exam question with the mark scheme provided.

A KS3 History lesson which introduces Titanic and why it is such a notorious disaster of the early 20th century. Titanic’s luxury as well as the possible causes of the disaster are looked at here. This is developed within a second lesson (Why did the Titanic sink?) There are a number of questions and sources for students to work through to create a stable foundational knowledge of the Titanic.
