Assembly - Consequences and responsibility

This assembly worked really well, opening with a slide asking if students believed in Karma. It then goes on through various consequences of actions and how scientifically the teen brain is not always capable of thinking about long term consequences, but that students still have to take responsibility for their action. It lasted 15 minutes and was received well. Grab yourself a bargain and save yourself an afternoon of planning. Enjoy

Whole school assembly - Learning to Fail

I presented this assembly to my house and it lasted about 15 minutes once everyone had come in and sat down. It starts with a video link to base jumpers which worked really well at keeping all the students quiet as they walked in. It also sets up nicely for learning to fail as these guys clearly can't fail, but in school failure is all part of learning and so students should embrace failure. The assembly then goes through the endeavors of famous people who have dealt with failure numerous times and moved on from these set backs and learnt from them successfully. It finishes by suggesting a "a fail Friday" where across the school students and teachers alike are encouraged to take risks in lessons and step outside if their comfort zones. Save yourself some time planning and grab yourself a bargain.

Assembly: How do you want to be perceived by others?

This assembly starts with some nice optical illusions which leads on to the concept of perception. It then looks at various stereotypes in school such as Jocks, Class Clown etc and looks at the qualities of each, and asks students how they would like their peers to perceive them. It then looks at how future education or employment would perceive them looking at the information the school would provide them with - Attendance, behavior points, achievement points, GCSE's and the qualities these would show if they were good. It also considers social media and how students should be aware of what they post now could be seen by future employers. The last few slides are to be filled in by me as they are specific to my school where I will be going over the best attendance, behaviour etc in the past month to hand out a reward. This assembly lasts 15 minutes Save yourself an afternoon planning and grab a bargain. Thanks for looking.

This resource includes 4 powerpoint based lessons with worksheets integrated into the powerpoint so you can print them off easily. I have created it based on the new national curriculum framework which appears to be bringing a lot of content down from the KS4 curriculum. This is followed by a fifth assessment based lesson where students complete a level assessed task. Each powerpoint contains footnotes to explain what should be done if it is not obvious. Each powerpoint is planned to take between 50 and 60 minutes and includes plenty of student lead learning and many opportunities for assessing student learning throughout the lessons. Thank you for looking.

I planned this lesson for a low ability year 9 class and as such it has a built in worksheet that is scaffolded to allow all student to make progress (this can easily be adapted accordingly). It worked well at getting the students o think logically and work independently, looking at real life examples of acceleration that they could relate to. Please see a copy of the worksheet in the cover image. Save yourself some time and grab a bargain.

Introduction to naming compounds

This lesson builds students up to naming compounds made from non-metals and metals, which end in-ide and then moves on to naming compounds which contain a non-metal, metal and oxygen which end in -ate. This worked well for a low ability year 11 class, but scaffolding could be taken out to provide more challenge. A worksheet is included and can be differentiated accordingly to test the understanding of different learners,

I taught this lesson to a low ability year 9 class and it is based on the new GCSE spec. It has a really scaffolded worksheet included in the powerpoint which you could adapt to challenge higher ability students (See cover image). Once students have figured out how to calculate speed on their own using the worksheet and the guided questions they carry out an experiment to apply their new knowledge. This come in the form of a trolley and ramp experiment. The students investigate what happens to the speed of the trolley when the height. of the ramp is increased. We are lucky enough to have the equipment in my school but it could easily be carried out with a toy car and a plank of wood raised by books. Save yourself some time and grab a bargain.

Created around the new KS3 national curriculum framework it encompasses powerpoint based lessons and associated worksheets, homework and assessments Each lesson includes a requisition list for lab techs and where it is not obvious foot notes have been created. Growth Mind Set Assembly

I used this assembly as an introduction to a new whole school drive on improving students numeracy through a tutor time activity called the maths Olympics. The assembly starts with a video which shows photos of a boy from birth to 11. The students were mesmerised by it and it meant they all came in nice and calmly. The assembly looks at the number of days and hours students have been alive and what they have done with their time and focuses on the importance of having a growth mind set to make the most of their time. The assembly lasts around 15 minutes and worked really well. Enjoy

Based on the new GCSE spec, this lesson worked really well for a year 9 low ability class. It is heavily scaffolded and because of this enabled each student to reach the two objectives of the lesson which were: Core- Identify vector and scalar quantities Challenge- Explain the difference between a scalar and vector quantity It included plenty of on the go assessment to check where each student is at different parts of the lesson. There is a built in worksheet (see cover picture) that can be built upon throughout the whole lesson and means students can work independently a lot of the time. Save yourself some time and grab a bargain.
