This lesson is for the Component 1 teaching of Democracy. It examines the development of suffrage in the UK and milestones which led to this and examines more recent debates about the growth of suffrage e.g. Votes for 16 and the voting rights for prisoners. If you can get hold of a copy of Blackadder III Dish and Dishonesty it is well worth it- so funny for the state of Democracy in the 19th Century but it is not essential for this lesson. These grids are to help students consolidate their knowledge in sufficient depth for their thematic essays. Some students in my experience rely on the same superficial evidence/ factual knowledge to write these essays and even though they are not to write in depth; it is important that they show off their expertise. One grid is from rebel perspective looking at aims, leadership, support, actions threat and one is from government perspective looking at government support, response, impact an reasons for decreased threat etc. Example modelled on the Cornish rebellion.
